Best Gaming Monitor [Reddit Recommendations]
Finding a good gaming monitor is not easy. Some gaming monitor features are only marketing moves while others are crucial.
However, if you manage to find a good one, your reaction might look like this:
If you want to feel the same way as this redditor, let me show you the best gaming monitors according to Reddit in 2023.
This gaming monitor list will completely change your gaming experience.
ASUS TUF Gaming
What you probably want to know first, what’s the monitor our redditor above is referring to? It’s the ASUS TUF Gaming monitor, and it’s also the top-ranked option on our list.
It’s been highly recommended, not just on Reddit, but also on Amazon. Upon reading the reviews on Amazon, it was not surprising to see why it has been referred to as the “gaming monitor majesty.”
The Specs
The ASUS TUF Gaming is coming with 27-inches, an IPS display and 165Hz. It’s G-SYNC compatible and you can currently get it on Amazon for approximately $320.
Best 4K Gaming Monitor acc. Reddit
You might be someone who is looking for a 4K monitor. Well, you’re not alone. There are a lot of Reddit posts about that topic.
After trying to find a pattern for 4K monitor recommendations, comments like this caught my attention:
Reddit even has it’s own gaming monitor bot. As you can see here’s the 4K gaming winner as of January 2023:
Both posts are recommending the ASUS TUF, however, the second monitor is only able to display 60Hz. The overall consensus on Reddit is to go for 144Hz. That’s why I’ve chosen the first model as the winner.
It’s coming with 144Hz, IPS and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Same as the second model, it’s GSYNC compatible and it’s currently available on Amazon for approximately $649.
Alternative: If you’re looking for an alternative 4k gaming monitor, make sure to check out the LG Ultra Gear with Nano IPS. It’s within the same price range and the reviews are awesome.
Best 1080p Gaming Monitor acc. Reddit
If you’re looking for a 1080p gaming monitor the AOC gets mentioned very frequently on Reddit.
Currently, Amazon is offering the AOC 27G2S for only $179. The good news is that it comes with 165Hz, a 27-inch display and a VA panel. The IPS display is missing here, but within that price range, you can’t complain. It’s also compatible with G-SYNC.
It’s currently available on Amazon for approximately $160.
Best Gaming Monitor Reddit (2023)
So, let me summarize what we’ve learned so far.
If you’re are looking for a 1440p gaming monitor with 144Hz, the winner is the ASUS TUF Gaming. If you’re looking for a 4K Monitor it’s the ASUS TUF 4K and if you’re looking for a 1080p monitor, make sure to check out the AOC 27G.

Frequently Asked Questions (Gaming Monitors)
If you’re still not sure about which gaming monitor to get, here’s some easy-to-read information that should help.
Different gamers have different needs and with gaming monitors, there are some features you might not fully understand. Essentially these are the most asked questions about monitors on Reddit.
- IPS or TN
- Hz (Hertz) - Frames per second
- Response time
- Pixel resolution
- The display size
Let’s start by answering the question which panel to use.
IPS vs TN
IPS stands for In-Plane Switching and TN stands for Twisted Nematic. Redditors used to say TN has a better response time and while this is true, with newer IPS panels the human eye is not really capable of noticing the difference.
Other than that IPS is by far the better technology and almost everyone is recommending an IPS panel over a TN gaming monitor.
You can spot an IPS panel very easily. Try to look at the monitor from a different angle. Are you still able to see vivid colors and a clear picture? Then it’s an IPS panel.
If you check out the subreddit r/buildapc you can clearly see Reddit’s preferences.
Ask Reddit: 60Hz, 144Hz or 165Hz?
Now, this one is really important if you’re serious about gaming monitors. Hz is short for Hertz and it regulates the refresh rate. So if you’re looking at a 60Hz monitor, your monitor is only able to display 60 frames per second.
Which could be worse because there is also 40Hz.
New gaming monitors offer far better frame rates such as 120Hz, 144Hz, or even 165Hz.
The question is, what do you need? I’ve found a pretty good answer, again on the r/buildapc subreddit.
As you can see, Reddit’s recommendation is to go with 144Hz. The rest is not really worth it.
And if you still want a 165Hz gaming monitor, make sure to check if the rest of your hardware is capable of handling it (like for instance your GPU).
Response Time
This one is a little bit tricky. Response time is actually another marketing move. A lot of times you read that a gaming monitor has a 1ms response time, so gamers assume that it must be the perfect gaming monitor, but that is far from the truth.
First of all, when you see the response time on the monitor package, it indicates the gray to gray response time, which means it’s only valid for grey pixels. I assume you’re going to play colorful games, so this number is pretty much vacuous.
Also as a gamer, you shouldn’t see any difference, whether the response time is 1ms or 5ms. So, instead of looking for 1ms gaming monitors, make sure to get enough Hz. In case you want to read more about response times, here’s a good Reddit post about it.
1080p, 1440p or 4K?
Now let’s talk about the resolution. You might think that 4K is the best way to play games, however, it actually depends on your needs. What kind of games do you play and even more important, what kind of GPU do you use?
If you’re into 4K gaming, you might need to update your GPU more often. If FPS is more important to you, then 1440p should be enough. Pixel density is not everything and sometimes 4K gaming might not be the best solution for your gaming needs.
Reddit’s pick is definitely 1440p and 144Hz. That’s the sweet spot where you have the best of both worlds. Enough frames per second and a really good pixel density to enjoy every current game.
This user is also referring to the size of your gaming monitor. Let’s check that out next.
24, 27 or 32-inch?
This one really depends on your personal needs. Not only on the GPU you use but also for instance your desk. Do you have enough room for a 32-inch monitor? Maybe you personally prefer smaller monitors. As you’ve seen most redditors prefer 27-inch monitors, but you should decide for yourself.
No matter what you do, make sure to get enough pixel density with bigger monitors. For instance, if you choose 32-inch, make sure to get at least 1440p.

Reddit - Dive into anything
Choosing the best monitor (not only 1440p 144hz or 4K) for gaming pretty much depends upon the preference of the viewer. Since you will be the one who will stare at the monitor, it is very subjective.
But of course, there are also specs to be considered. The good thing about 1440p gaming is that you do not always need a high-end computer to see the fine details of your favorite games.
So below is a simple guide on how you can choose the best gaming monitors (beloved by all Redditors) and we’re also going to mention our favorite brands.
Size and shape of the monitor
When it comes to gaming, you’d think that the bigger the monitor is, the better. But that’s not always the case. A larger monitor sure has its perks, but you also have to consider the pixels. Often, bigger monitors will have larger space to distribute the pixels, so which can result in more blurred image quality. Thus it’s not enough just to go for the largest one that you can get your hands on, make sure to consider the size vs the pixel rating.
The physical size and shape of the monitor are also important factors. You have to consider the space available on your setup.
Though larger monitors may improve the user experience, you also have to make sure that they will not overwhelm your entire setup.
The shape can also be a contributing factor.
Curved monitors often are more proper for an immersive experience. This is also great for multitasking and can help prevent eye strain.
The downside of curved monitors is that when they are placed near windows, they can reflect more glare. So this is something to consider for the layout of your gaming haven.
Generally, a 27-inch monitor may seem to be immersive enough without appearing too blurry or botched up.
Image quality and refresh rate
To ensure minimal motion blur, it’s important to take note of the pixel response time. Ideally, look for ones that have a rapid pixel response time.
Refresh rate is also an important aspect in determining image and video quality. If you’re just browsing, you don’t need to be concerned much with the refresh rate. But it’s a whole different story if you are a gamer. It can directly affect the user experience. As such, monitors with higher refresh rates are often more desirable. Thus, if you are gaming at 1440p, you will see the web telling you that a refresh rate of at least 75 megahertz will suffice.
But to get the full immersive experience, we say go for 144. This will result in a smoother experience and a higher FPS. Frame rate or a higher FPS can make images appear smoother and more realistic, thus making them more immersive for the gamer. But of course, to take advantage of the higher refresh rate, you also have to ensure that your GPU is fast enough. Otherwise, it will be a total waste.
Other special features
Apart from basics, you can see a handful of monitors with features or extra offerings that can make them stand out from the rest. Though not all will be able to make one’s gaming experience any better than it is, so you have to somehow make a list of what extra features are worth having.
And here are some of your favorites.
-
Night vision
Most gamers are night owls. Or most love to play in dark enclaves. That’s why a monitor with night vision is crucial. It can improve visibility in darker scenes and in darker rooms.
Monitors that have this capacity can make images appear less blurry and more clear. Thus images will appear succinct and vivid.
It should have sufficient built-in USB hubs on your computer. If you want to connect multiple gaming controllers to your PC, you are all covered. And as you level up in your gaming, so do the extra gadgets that you’re going to have to connect to your PC.

block of a personal computer and eventually get a "portable" computer, but never a miniature one.
An enthusiast posted photos of his work on integrating a 24-inch LG monitor into a system unit that is equipped with an RTX 2080 graphics card, an Intel Core i9 9900k family processor and 64 GB of RAM inside.
The necessity that pushed the “overseas Kulibin” to work on such a project was that, due to his employment (he works as an editor and often fulfills orders “in the fields”), he was tired of carrying with him a lot of components that are so necessary for work , and decided to turn his comfortable stationary workplace into a "mobile" one.
Yes, there are undoubtedly much better devices on the market for this option - for example, laptops with good video cards or the same laptops from Apple, but I wanted to make an original solution from those components that were at hand.
The main question that everyone is interested in is logical and understandable - are there any problems with cooling such a design inside the case?
The author assures that he does not observe any overheating, the case is well ventilated and that is enough.
