How to use the three "magic words" to increase your conversion rate

Imagine that you are able to influence the subconscious of people, because you know the "trigger" of any person's involuntary and uncontrolled reflexes. Now imagine that you can do this both in writing and orally.

You may be skeptical about this idea. In vain. Each person is subject to a kind of hypnosis: spoken words evoke spontaneous associations in him, and this happens reflexively, on the most basic, “bottom” layer of consciousness.

It can be said that we are all hypnotized from childhood: teaching a child to speak is based on hypnosis. A peculiar state of hypnosis, in which a person, without realizing it, stays all his conscious life, begins at a very early age.

Perhaps you never suspected the existence of "verbal hypnosis" and that some words have the power of suggestion. There are such words. They are simple and harmless, but if used correctly and consciously, they can incredibly increase the power of your message: an advertisement or a call to action. In this article, we will look at the magic words to sell a product.

However, before you learn hypnosis, you need to find out what it is not. We want to dispel the established prejudices associated with hypnosis.

What is hypnosis really?
Hypnosis of a Person with Sales Words
1. The first word is “imagine” (Imagine)
2. The second word is "you/you" (YOU)
3. The third magic word is "because" (BECAUSE)
Instead of a conclusion

What is hypnosis really?

Unfortunately, very few marketers have an adequate understanding of hypnosis. This is very unfortunate, since hypnosis is a very powerful tool for psychological influence. A lot depends on effective words in sales, and marketing is perhaps the most direct and obvious example of the practical application of psychology.

Here are some of the most common superstitions about hypnosis. You may have thought that this was true, but in fact it is nothing more than idle fiction.

1. Hypnosis is "the strong African sorcery of the Mumbo-Yumbo tribe."

This is not true. Hypnosis is actively used in medicine: many doctors, dentists, psychiatrists and psychotherapists use it to achieve the effect of "anesthesia without anesthesia". Hypnosis has a strong scientific basis.

2. When you are hypnotized, you are asleep.

No, actually you just relaxed. When you are hypnotized, your subconscious is more active than your conscious (critical) mind (ratio).

3. I cannot be hypnotized.

No, it is not. In fact, every person falls into a state of light hypnotic trance every day: driving a car on a long trip, watching a fascinating TV show or reading an exciting book.

4. Hypnotized people behave like zombies or robots.

No, you can't actually get someone under hypnosis to do something they wouldn't want to do "in their right mind." However, the subconscious of a hypnotized person is as naked as possible, and he tends to show his emotions much more actively and be guided by them when making decisions. And for us - web marketers and Internet entrepreneurs - this is very good. :)

However, one must remember that the instinct of self-preservation is "sewn into" the human mind, which prescribes not to do anything to harm oneself. This is where the conscious and subconscious work together, and before appealing to the subconscious of your client and looking for words that increase sales, you must be sure that the rational start of a potential buyer will not be offended by your commercial offer.

So, we have cleared the concept of hypnosis from the husks of ridiculous conjectures and idle gossip.

Hypnosis of a person with sales words

Let's consider the main words in sales, or "three magic words".

1. The first word is Imagine

Consider a typical situation: you offer a stranger to buy your product. The first reaction will most likely be rejection. Even if you offer a very good, fair and profitable deal, a potential client will be skeptical about your offer. He will think: “Yes, I will find cheaper, better, more…”

It is interesting that nothing of the kind happens when we turn to the irrational part of human consciousness - the imagination. For this, the first keyword is used - “imagine (to yourself)”.

By using this word to sell a product, you are inviting the customer to engage in a safe and enjoyable mind game. Your commercial offer should create a light, non-committal illusion of owning a new product.

The imperative mood of the verb "to present" directly refers to the unconscious of the potential client. The human brain literally cannot distinguish reality from fiction: in consciousness there is no difference between a real and an imaginary product or possession of a certain thing.

Remember! Skillfully using the hypnotic word "imagine", you enter the mind of the client through a "back door" that is not equipped with a common sense signaling!

2. The second word is "you/you" (YOU)

"you/you" is the most powerful hypnotic word. This phenomenon has a strict scientific justification - the so-called fundamental attribution error, a well-known psychological effect.

Its essence boils down to the following: any person is able to reasonably evaluate another person. However, critical thinking in most cases is turned off if we have to evaluate ourselves. Our "I" seems to fall out of the critical sight of the mind.

When an outsider addresses you using the hypnotically powerful pronoun "you", they are directly addressing the weakest, most vulnerable parts of your personality.

Here's a great example: on the MailChimp website, the magic word "you/you" is used with noticeable frequency - more than twice in one sentence. Judging by the success of MailChimp, "the witchcraft works." :)

“MailChimp helps you design emails, share them on social networks, integrate them with services you already use, and track your results. It's like your personal publishing platform."0085

3. The third magic word is "because" (BECAUSE)

There is a curious psychological phenomenon associated with the third magic word: every person - whether it be a crazy rock star or a born anarchist - unconsciously wants to give his life some meaning .

Meaning is manifested through the establishment of cause-and-effect relationships: what and why followed this or that case (this is a simplified but correct explanation). To express a causal relationship in the languages of the Indo-European group, the words "because" are used. They appeal to the deep layers of the human psyche. This confirms the experiment conducted by the American psychologist Ellen Langer (Ellen Langer) in the library of Harvard University.

Ellen asked permission to use the photocopier: “Excuse me, I need to copy five pages. Can I use the photocopier because I'm in a hurry?" (the number of consents received is 94%).

The second version of her request: “Excuse me, I need to copy five pages. May I use the photocopier?” (the number of consents received is 60%).

Dr. Langer assures that in the first case, the logical chain of “cause and effect” worked, to which any person reacts.

Instead of a conclusion

Use the three "magic words" when creating landing pages and advertisements. Simple words like “imagine”, “you/you”, “because” can increase the conversion of your landing page or website.

High conversions!

How to become a hypnotist? — Knife

Cheap and cheerful, for transportation costs and a few cents on top, I can become one of the greatest hypnotists in the world. How did I know about it? About a week ago, an advertisement in the Sunday paper caught my attention. A man who called himself Hypno offered to teach anyone who wanted to the art of hypnosis - with a final test at the end of the course. A few days later, I contacted Hypno, receiving from him a tuition fee and detailed instructions on how to find his place. “I can see you any day from three to six or seven to nine,” he wrote, so I went to Brooklyn without notifying him in advance. The ride from the bridge to his home, 227 Court Street, took about fifteen minutes. His last name was Thompson, he lived on the last floor in a poor and uncomfortable apartment. Only his portly wife was at home, so the next day I again had to climb three flights of stairs. A six-year-old girl opened the door for me and took me to her dad.

Mr. Thompson was tall and thin, with long gray hair combed back over a pale, oblong face. He had piercing black eyes, and a drooping mustache completely hid his mouth.

- Do I think I can teach you hypnosis? he repeated in answer to my question. “Yes, I assure you, I will make a first-class hypnotist out of you. My price is $10 up front and $40 after the final tests. What are the tests? Well, after two lessons, I will provide you with a test subject and let you subject him to suggestion. If you manage to hypnotize him, then you have mastered this art.

“I'm afraid I'll be unteachable and waste my money,” I insisted.

“Oh, you will certainly learn,” he assured me. “I can already see that you will make an excellent hypnotist. As well as from all my students. I give them some of my own power, which some, I believe, are born with. It happened that people came to me, and I saw that they perfectly understand the art of hypnosis, but cannot apply it. And yet, after just a few lessons, they were no worse off than I was. I am, among other things, also a clairvoyant,” he continued. “I will teach you this after you master hypnosis. It's very simple. One can quickly learn to put the other's "I" into a trance. A smart person will make a lot of money on this.

Having made him an obligation to make me a good hypnotist, I paid him 10 dollars in advance and proceeded to the first lesson. He sat on the sofa opposite me and ordered to repeat exactly all his actions.

How to do it

- When inviting the subject to sit, make sure that he settles in a comfortable position, as he will need to sit completely still for ten minutes. Always make sure that he does not cross his legs and does not have galoshes on him. Why? Because it distracts him from your suggestion. First of all, I want to ask you to always say "please" and sound commanding. Repeat after me, paying attention to every word: “Now sir, please put your right thumb on the pulse of your left hand, press firmly to hear the heartbeat, and think only of this.” Great, you did a good job with that.

In the first lesson, I will teach you how to control muscle strength. On the second - to control the psyche. When a person sits in front of you in this position, putting the thumb of your right hand on the pulse of your left, you should close his eyes, that is, with your right hand, make a pass from top to bottom in front of his face, almost touching it with your fingertips. Say, "Now sir, please close your eyes." When you manage to get a person to close his eyes so that he will not be able to open them, he is in your power.

He continued the lesson:

- When the subject's eyes are closed and he thinks only of his heartbeat, you approach him about three times in ten minutes and make passes over him, three passes at a time - like this. - He got up and, raising his hands above my head, slowly passed them in front of my face, close, but not touching it, with such a movement as if sweeping away something invisible hanging in front of me. Then he told me to make passes over him. I repeated them until he was satisfied with the result.

- After ten minutes, you take the subject's hands and carefully lower him to his knees. Then, with your left hand, you take his hand, run your thumb along the junction between the little finger and the ring finger, and press very hard.

— Why is this being done? I asked.

- I don't tell everyone about this, but I don't mind telling you. Between these fingers is a nerve called the nerve of perception. When you press hard on it, it sends a signal to the brain. At the same time, you place the fingers of your right hand on the head of the subject and press hard with your thumb right between the eyebrows. In this way you control the organ of individuality. The nerve in the hand communicates with this nerve, and thanks to this, the person is at your mercy. Holding it like this, you firmly say, “Now, sir, I will make it so that you cannot open your eyes. Try! Open your eyes! Do your best!" And then he won't be able to open his eyes. After you release him, you snap your fingers right next to his ears and say, "Okay, sir," and he opens his eyes.

On failure

— Yes, but what if he does open his eyes while I tell him he can't? I insisted.

- Well, then you will try again.

- Yes, but he can open his eyes every time - I wouldn't like that.

- Do not try to influence him more than three times in a row. If the third time he does not succumb to suggestion, say: "You partially succumbed to my suggestion, and in the next session I will be able to hypnotize you." Do not forget to also note his enormous willpower. This will make him more receptive to suggestion next time.

- Why can't he open his eyes when I tell him "try hard"?

- Because you are pressing hard on his organ of individuality. When you say "Try your best" - you should always say that - he makes a great effort to open his eyes, raising his eyebrows. Your thumb prevents him from doing so. If he had simply tried to raise his eyelids, as he would have done, if you had not urged him to try, it would not have been difficult for him. When you take your hand away and say, "Okay," he stops trying and opens his eyes. After you do this, the person will be in your power. I once stitched five people together with a needle while they were in this state.

- Great! I exclaimed, fascinated by this thought: a picture arose in my imagination of how I string all unpleasant personalities on one thread. - Can I stitch people together?

- Yes, I will teach you this. Now you know how to control muscle movements, and you can force the subject against their own will to do whatever you want. You just need to catch his eye. "Now sir, please look at me." He will look. Raise the index finger of your right hand and move it. He will do the same. Say, “Faster, sir, faster. Now, sir, you can't stop," and you suddenly stop and point your finger at him. He can't stop and keeps moving until you snap your fingers and repeat: "Okay, sir."

— But what if he can stop? I asked. The flesh was willing, but the spirit was very weak [Paraphrase of the Gospel of Matthew (26:41): "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." - Approx. per.].

- Then you will have to try again.

The power of thought

The next evening I was ready for a new lesson. This time I had to learn the art of controlling other people's mental abilities. Did I succeed? I will say one thing - listen, what a wonderful demonstration I had. “I will tell you cherished secrets,” he said, “so it’s better for the young lady [meaning my companion] to wait for you somewhere else.”

- To establish control over the thinking abilities, you have the subject stand facing you. You take his hands in the same way as you did when you closed his eyes, then, bringing your open palm close to his face, hold it for a second in front of his eyes and say: "Now, sir, I will deprive you of the name." You, of course, asked for his name beforehand. You take your hand away and say, "Now, sir, say your name," and he won't be able to say it. Haha!

— Can't he? I said doubtfully. - And what to do if all the same he can?

- Try. If you want to give a demonstration to your friends, I can provide you with test subjects cheap and cheerful: for the cost of transportation and a few cents on top.

— Could you really? I asked innocently. - That would be great. Where will you take them?

— Oh, I have some young people you can practice on, and they will be happy to participate if you pay for their transportation and shaving. Well, usually, you know, it happens at a dinner party. At one time I entertained guests at receptions in a house on Twenty-third Street. I once hypnotized the wife of a Scientific American editor there. Created a real sensation.

- Will you give me the addresses of your test subjects?

“Dame after you pass the final test,” he replied apprehensively. “One of them is a young salesman, and the other works in a general store in the city.

Trial

The next evening, my young companion and I arrived a little late, but perfectly prepared for the expected salon game. Mr. Thompson, dressed like a groom in a tailcoat, the style of which was out of date for forty years, greeted us with a triumphant smile.

"Ladies, let me introduce Mr. Gray," he said as I took off my hat and coat in a businesslike manner.

Is this my test subject? - I asked and, having received an affirmative answer, turned to Mr. Gray with the words: - Are you ready for a ruthless slaughter?

She makes passes over the test subject

I knew this test subject would succumb to hypnosis even if I didn't touch him at all. From the very beginning, I decided to do everything not the way I was taught, but exactly the opposite, in order to make sure that the test subject was a pretender. Therefore, I simply took his hand and did not press on the nerve, as I was taught, and put my right hand on his forehead - again, without the slightest pressure.

- Now, sir, you can't open your eyes. Try your best! Open your eyes! Try! - I said.

The subject began to roll and twitch his eyes, which remained closed. I snapped my fingers, exclaimed: “Good!”, and he opened his eyes, rubbed them and, like an angelic heroine of the novel, waking up from a feigned faint, exclaimed: “Where am I? What have you done to me?"

I told him to sit on a chair, and after making several passes over him, I informed him that he could not get up. He began to squirm in all directions, but continued to sit. I put his hand against the wall and made passes over it, and he pulled it and twisted it, apparently unable to free himself. Then I chased him around the room, sometimes on my knees, then - forcing him to bend in half and at the same time stretch his neck to see my finger raised above his head. Mr. Thompson protested, saying that I was treating the subject badly, but I objected that if the subject was under hypnosis, he would not feel it, and continued on. Finally, when his face turned red from exhausting exercises, I put my hand on the edge of the piano. He lowered his head next to her. I jerked my hand away and left him standing still.

"Don't leave him in this position for too long," Mr. Thompson insisted, in constant concern for the subject's comfort.

“I don’t intend to get him out of this state until tomorrow,” I answered firmly. Mr. Thompson looked at me in surprise, and his wife, who had been watching the performance through the half-open door, entered the room.

- Poor fellow! It is not good to keep him in this position for so long.

“Oh, you know,” I said tenderly, “he is under hypnosis and does not feel the slightest discomfort.
