A Prayer for Serenity

Grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

As it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with Him

Forever and ever in the next.

A Prayer for Courage

Woman's Day/Getty Images

Dear Lord,

Your word tells us that we are not slaves to fear. You have given us many promises that tell us to rest in you and your word. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.Thank you for this wonderful promise. I will remember these words during the difficult times that I am tempted to give in to fear, but instead will decide to completely trust in you. May you keep your words in my heart and mind, and help me to dwell on them throughout the day. Thank you, Lord.

Spirituality and Prayer Relieve Stress

The last thing I think of when I’m stressed out with work deadlines and complicated homework projects with the kids is to get on my knees or attend Mass. But a growing body of research suggests prayer and religion rank high among the best stress busters.

In her new book, The SuperStress Solution, Dr. Roberta Lee devotes a section to the topic of spirituality and prayer.

“Research shows that people who are more religious or spiritual use their spirituality to cope with life,” notes Dr. Lee.

“They’re better able to cope with stress, they heal faster from illness, and they experience increased benefits to their health and well-being. On an intellectual level, spirituality connects you to the world, which in turn enables you to stop trying to control things all by yourself. When you feel part of a greater whole, it’s easy to understand that you aren’t responsible for everything that happens in life.”

Among the research she cites is one study of approximately 126,000 people that found that the people who frequently attended services increased their odds of living by 29 percent. Another study conducted by the National Institute for Health Care Research (NIHR) illustrated that the Canadian college students who were connected to their campus ministries visited doctors less often and were less stressed during difficult times than the other students. The students who had strong religious correlations also had higher positive feelings, lower levels of depression, and were better equipped at handling stress.

Dr. Lee points to the research of Harold Koenig, M.D., associate professor of medicine and psychiatry at Duke University, who surveys more than a thousand studies appraising the effects of prayer on health in his book Handbook of Religion and Health. Among them:

  • Hospitalized people who never attended church have an average stay of three times longer than people who attend regularly.
  • Heart patients were fourteen times more likely to die following surgery if they did not practice a religion.
  • Elderly people who never or rarely attended church had a stroke rate double that of people who attended regularly.
  • People who are more religious tend to become depressed less often. When they do become depressed, they recover more quickly.

Why all the benefits of prayer and religion?

First, religion and faith provide social support, a consistent element of happiness and good health. Regular churchgoers not only get support from their community, but they also GIVE support to others, and the altruistic activity promotes better health.

Second, religion reinforces a belief system. People bond when they hold common opinions and beliefs, even it’s a form of gossiping.

Third, religion and spirituality do what a parent or supervisor at work does: give you 10 laws to abide by. And, although you may not like the regulations set upon you and try to break a few, you are glad they exist, because, for the most part, your life runs more smoothly when you follow them.

Finally, faith attaches meaning to events. It gives folks hope, the ultimate stress reducer. Hope, doctors say, is about the best thing you can do for your body. It’s better than a placebo.

    Despondency is a characteristic feature of modern society. There are periods in life when all things fail, although there are no obvious reasons for this. This means that in the soul of a person there is not enough balance and peace. Prayers come to the rescue in such situations to calm the soul and heart.

    The strongest prayer

    Virgin Mary, Hail, Blessed Mary,

    The Lord is with you: blessed are you among women,

    and blessed is the fruit of your womb,

    It is worthy to eat as truly Blessed Theotokos,

    blessed and immaculate and Mother of our God.

    The most honest cherub and the most glorious without comparison seraphim,

    we magnify the present Mother of God.

    Read this prayer for:

    • calm the nervous system;
    • stress relief;
    • conflict resolution;
    • balancing the emotional background.

    You can read such a text many times a day. It all depends on the severity of the condition. Therefore, you should not limit yourself. Residents of monasteries read such a prayer up to a hundred times a day with a rosary.

    Prayers to saints for comfort

    Sometimes, to calm the soul and heart, they turn to saints for help. These include.

    Matrona of Moscow:

    “Blessed Staritsa, Matrona of Moscow. Protect me from nervous enmity, protect me from severe need. May my soul not hurt from thoughts, and the Lord forgive me for all sins. Help me calm my neurosis, let there be no crying of sorrowful tears. Amen"

    John the Baptist:

    “To the Baptist of Christ, preacher of repentance, do not despise me who repents, but copulating with the heavenly ones, praying to the Lord for me, unworthy, dejected, weak and sad, fallen into many misfortunes, troubled by the stormy thoughts of my mind. I am a den of evil deeds, by no means having an end to sinful custom, nailed for my mind is an earthly thing.

    What shall I do? We don't know. And to whom shall I resort, that my soul may be saved? Only to you, Saint John, give the name of grace, as before the Lord, according to the Theotokos, it is more than all those who were born, you were honored to touch the top of the King of Christ, who takes away the sins of the world, the Lamb of God.

    Pray for him for my sinful soul, but from now on, in the first ten hours, I will bear the good burden and accept bribes with the latter. To her, the Baptist of Christ, an honest Forerunner, an extreme Prophet, the first martyr in grace, a mentor of fasting and desert dwellers, a teacher of purity and a close friend of Christ!

    I pray, I resort to you: do not reject me from your intercession, but raise me up, cast down by many sins. Renew my soul with repentance, as if with a second baptism, better than both, thou art the chief: with baptism, wash away the ancestral sin, with repentance, cleanse every bad deed. Cleanse me, defiled with sins, and compel me to enter, or else it enters badly, into the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen".

    The most important thing is to sincerely ask the saint for help, believing in his miraculous powers. You need to turn to the face in the evening, on the eve it is recommended to visit the church and pray there near the icon. If this is not possible, then you can perform the ritual at home.

    If there are many stresses and failures in life, it is worth reading a prayer text aimed at calming the heart and soul. He will give strength and energy for new achievements.

    Orthodox prayer to calm the soul and heart

    Modern life is full of stress, it haunts a person at work, at home, on the road or in public places. Problems with superiors, quarrels with a spouse, problems with children, terrorist attacks, disasters and natural disasters - all this makes a person experience constant stress and nervousness. Many experience numerous panic attacks, someone falls into depression. Christians understand how to deal with this - to resort to the help of the Lord and pray to Him.

    How to calm the heart?

    The person has an extremely vain nature. If you think carefully and remember the last moments of unconditional happiness and peace, it turns out that they were a long time ago and generally happen infrequently. Even a vacation does not guarantee a good rest from work, and even more so does not free you from family problems. A person’s to-do list is endless, his brain is constantly busy with certain problems, which ultimately leads to overwork, stress and depression.

    However, Christians must understand that everything worldly is vanity, because in some 10-15 years the children will grow up and live their own lives, a problematic project at work will end, the car will be repaired and life will be a little calmer. Health problems also help to realize the temporality and insignificance of all difficulties - a serious illness makes it clear that no problems at work or quarrels with a harmful neighbor can be compared with heart problems and nothing compared with cancer or other diseases. Awareness of the vanity and temporality of worldly difficulties helps to treat them calmly, without taking them to heart.

    Important! A person who cares about the state of his soul knows that as soon as longing or despondency captures his heart, stress begins - this is a signal of his departure from God. This condition is dangerous and can lead to serious problems.

    How to calm a rebellious soul? Here are a few tips:

    1. Confess - calm communication with a priest will help you rethink and understand why there is a lot of fuss in life and how to fix it.
    2. Start fasting - 3-4 days you should limit yourself to food and entertainment, pay attention to reading the Scriptures and the writings of the church fathers. This will help to focus the eye on the spiritual, and not on the soul.
    3. Communion - unity with the Church has a positive effect on the rebellious spirit and makes you think about the eternal.
    4. Attend worship services more often - the calm atmosphere of the temple, hymns and sermons will help you turn to the Lord again and get peace of mind.
    5. Pray regularly for the spiritual and spiritual state, asking the Lord to calm the soul and heart.

    Read also articles about other Orthodox prayers:

    But the best thing to do is to simply avoid sinking into constant stress by regularly attending meetings, reading the Bible and spending time in prayer.

    What prayers to read

    Prayer calls for the help of the higher heavenly powers to a person, this not only strengthens faith, but also helps to calm the nerves, restore peace in the heart. At the same time, sometimes it is enough to say a few words and call on the Lord for help, without long rituals.

    First of all, it is necessary to say the prayer "Our Father" - this is the first and most important prayer in the life of a Christian, which helps to restore peace in the heart:

    Our Father Who art in heaven. May your name be hallowed; let your kingdom come; may Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us our daily bread this day; and forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

    The second most common prayer is considered to be “Hail to the Mother of God Virgin”. The Mother of God is an intercessor for all people before Jesus Christ and therefore it is necessary to read the appeal to her:

    Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you: blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, for you gave birth to our souls as the Savior. It is worthy to eat as if truly bless Theotokos, blessed and immaculate and the Mother of our God. The most honest cherubim and the most glorious seraphim without comparison, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee. Amen.

    If a certain period of life has happened, full of difficulties and problems, then every day, along with other prayers of the morning rule, you need to read the prayer of the Optina Elders for every day:

    Lord, give me peace of mind to meet everything that the coming day brings me. Let me completely surrender to Your holy will. For every hour of this day, instruct and support me in everything. Whatever news I receive during the day, teach me to accept it with a calm soul and firm conviction that everything is Thy holy will. In all my words and deeds guide my thoughts and feelings. In all unforeseen cases, do not let me forget that everything is sent down by You. Teach me to act directly and reasonably with each member of my family, without embarrassing or upsetting anyone. Lord, give me the strength to endure the fatigue of the coming day and all the events during the day. Guide my will and teach me to pray, believe, hope, endure, forgive and love. Amen.

    As words of repentance, you can read an appeal to John the Baptist, admitting his sinfulness and asking for help from a saint:

    To the Baptist of Christ, preacher of repentance, repentant, do not despise me, but copulating with the heavens, praying to the Lord for me, unworthy, dejected, weak and sad, fallen into many troubles, burdened by the stormy thoughts of my mind. I am a den of evil deeds, by no means having an end to sinful custom, nailed for my mind is an earthly thing. What will I create? We don't know. And to whom shall I resort, that my soul may be saved? Only to you, Saint John, give the name of grace, as before the Lord, according to the Theotokos, it is more than all those who were born, you were honored to touch the top of the King of Christ, who takes away the sins of the world, the Lamb of God. Pray for him for my sinful soul, but from now on, at the first ten hours, I will bear the good burden and accept bribes with the latter. To her, the Baptist of Christ, an honest Forerunner, an extreme Prophet, the first martyr in grace, a mentor of fasting and desert dwellers, a teacher of purity and a close friend of Christ! I pray to you, I resort to you: do not reject me from your intercession, but raise me up, overthrown by many sins. Amen.

    Every day you can make an appeal to your Guardian Angel, asking him for help. You can even turn to him several times a day - when it is especially difficult to maintain the rhythm of life and overcome difficulties:

    Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from God from heaven, I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, and save me from all evil, guide me to a good deed and direct me to the path of salvation. Amen.

    These texts were written by people who also needed God's help and the intercession of the saints, who also suffered from the hustle and bustle of this world. It is necessary to understand that they have already had all the hardships, as Ecclesiastes writes, “And this is not new under the sun,” so you should not worry, you need to pull yourself together and turn to Heaven for help.

    Reading rules

    You can read prayers in the morning before the working day, while not forgetting to thank Heaven in the evening. It is important to ask for help, do it sincerely and kindly.

    • Turning to the Lord for help, you should do it in silence, preferably in solitude.
    • Prayer can be said in a quiet voice, but if this is not possible, read silently.
    • It is advisable to light a candle or lamp in the red corner, while turning off the TV, radio and telephone.
    • Pray in silence, thoughtfully and sincerely.
    • After that make the sign of the cross and put out the candle.

    Tip! If during the day a person feels anxious and nervous, his heart is filled with despondency or longing, you can repeat prayers in any quiet place, leaving all your affairs for a couple of minutes.

    Prayers for fear, fear and anxiety

    Anxiety, night terrors, obsessive thoughts - every person has experienced this. Even in ancient times, people knew that the most effective remedy against mental anxiety and bad thoughts is prayer.

    Being in spiritual confusion, it is difficult to find words. In this case, ready-made texts are used, compiled by hermits who lived in secluded places, where fears and anxiety act with particular force.

    Their prayers are a sure way to get rid of phobias, anxious states, thoughts that confuse the soul.

    Fear of people

    Strong prayer for fear and anxiety - Psalms of David.

    King David, who lived in pre-Christian times in the land of present-day Israel, endured persecution from his own son Absalom, who also wanted to reign. Once, hiding from the chase, David wrote a psalm "Lord, why do my enemies multiply?". While the king was praying, his enemies were defeated by the power of God, without the use of weapons.

    David's prayer can still be heard every day in an Orthodox church at the evening service.

    St. Ambrose of Optina recommended this prayer reading in order to destroy the evil intentions of the enemies, but not to sin ourselves. In times of great embarrassment, you can read the entire psalm, or utter individual phrases that are suitable for the situation.

    Other psalms of David:

    You can pray in both Slavonic and Russian.

    Lord, why do you multiply those who are cold? Many rise up against me, many say to my soul: there is no salvation for him in his God. You, Lord, are my intercessor, my glory and lift up my head. I called with my voice to the Lord, and heard me from my holy mountain. I fell asleep, and spah, rose, as if the Lord would intercede for me. I will not be afraid of those people around who attack me. Resurrect, O Lord, save me, my God, for you have struck down all those who are at enmity with us in vain: you have crushed the teeth of sinners. Salvation is of the Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.

    Unfounded fears

    Dark thoughts come to every person from time to time. It seems that nothing happened, but the heart is tormented by panic, forebodings of trouble. In these cases, they turn to the Mother of God.

    She spent a long time in anxious anticipation of the misfortune that was to befall her Son, Christ. Her help is strong in similar situations that happen to people.

    In the 8th century there lived a Greek monk Theosterikt, who suffered from attacks of fear and anxiety. To get rid of them, Theosterikt compiled the Canon of the Theotokos for prayerful help, "read in spiritual sorrow and circumstances."

    This is a powerful prayer from obsessive thoughts that give rise to phobias, printed in any prayer book.

    Reading the canon every day, believers really get rid of fear, anxiety and anxiety.

    The creation of the monk Theostirikt

    Irmos: Having passed the water like dry land, and having escaped the evil of Egypt, the Israelite cries out: Let us drink to the Redeemer and our God.

    Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

    Contain many misfortunes, I resort to You, seeking salvation: O Mother of the Word and the Virgin, save me from the heavy and fierce.

    Passions confuse me, fill my soul with much despondency; die, Otrokovitsa, in the silence of the Son and Thy God, All-blameless.

    Glory: Savior gave birth to Thee and God, I pray, Virgo, get rid of the fierce ones; to Thee now, resorting, I stretch out my soul and thought.

    And now: Ailing in body and soul, vouchsafe visitations from the Divine and providence from Thee, one Mother of God, like a good, Good Parent.

    Irmos: Lord of the Heavenly Circle, and the Builder of the Church, You confirm me in Your love, desires to the edge, true affirmation, only Humane.

    The intercession and cover of my life I suppose Thee, Virgin Mother of God: You feed me to the haven of Your good guilt, the faithful Affirmation, the one All-Permanent.

    I pray, Virgin, to destroy my storm of spiritual confusion and sorrow: You are more, God-bred, You gave birth to the Head of Christ's silence, the only Pure One.

    Glory: Having given birth to the benefactor of the good guilty, bestow wealth on all: all you can, as if you had given birth to the mighty in the fortress of Christ, God blessed.

    And now: Violent ailments and painful passions tortured, Virgo, You
    help me: healings are not scarce. I know the Treasure, Immaculate, unexpected.

    A warm prayer, and an unstoppable wall, a source of mercy, a refuge of the world, diligently crying out to Ty: Mother of God, Mistress, first, and deliver us from troubles, one who soon intercedes.

    Irmos I have heard, O Lord, the sight of Your sacrament, I have understood Your works, and glorified Your Divinity.

    The embarrassment of my passions, the Pilot gave birth to the Lord, and calm the storm of my transgressions, God-bred.

    Thy Mercy calling upon the abyss, give me, Even the Blessed One, and the Savior of all who sing Thee.

    Video (click to play).

    Enjoying, Most Pure, Your gifts, we sing thanksgiving singing, leading Thee Mother of God.

    Glory: On the bed of my illness and infirmity to those below me, like God-loving, help, Mother of God, one Ever-Virgin.

    And now: Hope and affirmation, and salvation to the immovable wall, having You, All-Permanent, we get rid of any inconvenience.

    Irmos Enlighten us with Thy commandments, O Lord, and with Thy lofty arm grant us Thy peace, O Lover of mankind.

    Fulfill, Pure, joy my heart, Your incorruptible joy, giving birth to the Guilty.

    Deliver us from troubles, Pure Mother of God, eternally giving birth to Deliverance, and Peace, to all minds.

    Glory: Resolve the darkness of my transgressions, O Bride of God, with the enlightenment of Your Lordship, the Light that gave birth to the Divine and eternal.

    And now: Heal, O Pure One, the infirmity of my soul, granting me Thy visitation, and grant me health through Thy prayers.

    Irmos: I will pour out a prayer to the Lord, and to Him I will proclaim my sorrows, for my soul is filled with evil, and my stomach draw near to hell, and I pray like Jonah: from aphids, O God, raise me up.

    As if he had saved death and aphids, He himself issued death, corruption and death, my nature was the former, Virgo, pray to the Lord and Your Son, deliver me from the enemies of villainy.

    Thy representative of the belly, and the Guardian is firm, Virgo, and I will solve the misfortunes of rumors, and drive away the taxes of demons; and I always pray, deliver me from the aphids of my passions.

    Glory: Like a wall of refuge, and all-perfect salvation of souls, and space in sorrows, O Lady, and we rejoice in Your enlightenment: O Lady, now save us from passions and troubles.

    And now: On my bed now I lie infirm, and there is no healing of my flesh; but having given birth to God and the Savior of the world, and the Deliverer of ailments, I pray to you the Good: from aphids, heal me from ailments.

    The intercession of Christians is shameless, Intercession to the Creator is immutable, do not despise the voices of sinful prayers, but precede, as if Good, to help us, who faithfully call Thee: hasten to prayer, and strive for supplication, intercession ever, the Mother of God, honoring Thee.

    Irmos: From Judea the youths came down, in Babylon sometimes, by the faith of the Trinity, the fire of the cave was trampled, singing: God of the fathers, blessed be Thou.

    Thou hast desired our salvation, O Savior, arrange, Thou hast settled in the womb of the Virgin, Thou hast shown the Intercessor to the world: our Father God, blessed be Thou.

    The Lord of Mercy, Thou hast given birth to Him, Mother Pure, beg to be delivered from sins and spiritual filth by faith calling: our father, God, bless Thou.

    Glory: The treasure of salvation and the source of incorruption, who gave birth to Thee, and the pillar of affirmation, and the door of repentance, Thou hast shown to those who call: our father, God, blessed be Thou.

    And now: Bodily weaknesses and mental illnesses, Mother of God, with love approaching Your shelter, Virgin, grant healing, Who gave birth to Christ the Savior.

    Irmos: The King of Heaven, His angels sing, praise and exalt Him for all eternity.

    Do not despise those who require help from You, Virgin, who sing and exalt Thee forever.

    You heal the infirmity of my soul, and bodily diseases, Virgin, let me glorify Thee, Pure, forever.

    Glory: Pour out wealth of healing to those who faithfully sing Thee, Virgin, and exalt Your inexpressible Christmas.

    And now: You drive away adversity, and find passions, Virgo: the same we sing to you forever and ever.

    Irmos: Truly, we confess Theotokos, saved by Thee, Pure Virgin, with the incorporeal faces of Thee majestically.

    Do not turn away the current of my tears, Even from every face we take away every tear, Virgin, who gave birth to Christ.

    Fill my heart with joys, Virgo, Even accepting fulfillment of joys, consuming sinful sorrow.

    Be a refuge and intercession for those who run to You, Virgin, and an unbreakable wall, but a refuge and cover and joy.

    Glory: Enlighten thy Light with the dawns, Virgin, driving away the darkness of ignorance, faithfully confessing the Theotokos to Thee.

    And now: In the place of embitterment of weakness, humbled, Virgin, heal, transforming from ill health into health.

    It happens that anxiety is so strong that there is no strength for long reading.

    In these cases, repeated repetition of a short prayer “Most Holy Theotokos, save me” or singing “My Queen, Blessing” will help: See my trouble, see my sorrow; help me, as if I am weak, feed me, as if strange! Offended by my weight - resolve that one, like you will! As if there is no other imam of help, except for You, neither another Representative, nor a good Comforter, only You, O Mother of God! Yes, save me and cover me forever and ever. Amen.

    Fear of death

    Every person is afraid of death for several reasons:

    • uncertainty of the event itself;
    • fear of leaving children or loved ones without help;
    • unwillingness to lose the pleasures of life.

    All of them come from disbelief in the will of God. At such moments, prayer helps from fear and anxiety caused by the expectation of death.

    Many saints experienced similar states.

    The Monk Mary of Egypt was tormented by the fear of death, living for 17 years in complete solitude, in the desert, until the Mother of God Herself delivered her from spiritual embarrassment. Martyr Boniface, who loved various pleasures during his lifetime, no doubt went to his death when it came to confessing faith in Christ.

    You can ask these saints for help with your own words or special petitions: but about souls, things are immortal. / The same and from the Angels rejoices, reverend Mary, your spirit.

    Thy martyr, O Lord, Boniface, in his suffering the incorruptible crown is received from Thee, our God, for having Thy strength, put down the tormentors, crush and the demons of weak insolence. Save our souls with prayers.

    Night terrors

    When the day is drawing to a close and the environment becomes hard to distinguish, imaginary fears overcome an impressionable person. Children are especially susceptible to this: their imagination draws monsters under the bed or ghosts outside the window.

    Other prayers for anxiety:

    An effective prayer for nightly fears generated by demons is David's psalms "Let God rise again" and "Alive in the help of the Most High."

    The first of them calls on God to drive away enemies - evil spirits, and the second tells about the serene life of one who always hopes for God's help.

    Alive in the help of the Most High, in the blood of the Heavenly God will settle down. The Lord says: Thou art my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. As if He will deliver thee from the net of the hunter, and from the rebellious word, His splash will overshadow thee, and under His wings you hope: His truth will be your weapon. Do not be afraid of the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days, from the thing in the darkness of the passing, from the scum, and the demon of the noonday. A thousand will fall from your country, and darkness at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, both look at your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. As you, O Lord, are my hope, the Most High have laid down your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and the wound will not approach your body, as if by His Angel a commandment about you, save you in all your ways. They will take you in their hands, but not when you stumble your foot on a stone, step on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and, as I know My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will crush him, and I will glorify him, I will fulfill him with long life, and I will show him My salvation.

    May God arise, and let the enemy be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. Like smoke disappears, let them disappear, like wax melts from the face of fire, so let sinners perish from the presence of God, and let the righteous rejoice, let them rejoice before God, and enjoy in joy.

    Short prayers for nervousness, anxiety

    In moments of special anxiety and nervous tension, it is good to read short prayers that soothe feelings:

    1. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner (sinner).
    2. Holy Mother of God, save me.
    3. Saint (name), pray to God for me.

    The rosary can be touched, which helps to concentrate and calms the nerves.

    Prayer is not a magic spell, but evidence of a person's faith in God.
    Asking for the help of God and the saints, one must try and live according to the commandments of God. Then mental anxieties, phobias, obsessive thoughts and fears will go away without return, and every event of life will bring joy.

    Prayer for despondency, depression, anguish and despair

    Longing, despondency, and even more so a depressive state is not just a bad mood that gets better only from one insignificant joyful event, such a state can rather be attributed to an illness, even a protracted one.

    In the Orthodox religion, despondency and depression, among other things, were correlated with mortal sin. It is worth noting that during their lifetime, some saints also struggled with the spirit of despondency. And from them, just the same, texts have come down to us that help in overcoming this spirit, one of these is a prayer from longing for the deceased.

    From depression and despair, who to pray to?

    There are many prayer services to miracle workers that can help in getting rid of such a difficult condition. First of all, it is necessary to choose one or several sacred texts that can have a beneficial effect on the asker.

    It is quite simple to determine what kind of prayer from longing and despondency for a person, that is, when reading any of the prayer services, an Orthodox believer should feel that this particular prayer can help him.

    Anyone who is in need and sincerely asks will be granted a strong prayer in desperation. The choice itself is simply necessary, because the causes and types of the appearance of this state can be varied, and therefore it is necessary to find exactly that miracle worker who will hear, understand and fulfill the request of the believer as soon as possible.

    And, accordingly, prayer texts, as well as reasons, can be different, granting help in one situation or another, for example:

    • Prayer for despondency will help those who are in emotional imprisonment;
    • If a person is separated from his family and people close to him, then prayer from anguish will help him cope with this;
    • But a prayer service from sorrows is able to save a believer from failures in various matters.
    • Saint John of Kronstadt;
    • Holy Great Martyr Barbara;
    • Nikolay Ugodnik;
    • Saint Tikhon;
    • Rev. Ephraim;
    • Martyr Tryphon;
    • Mother of God - such a prayer will become especially effective if it is proclaimed before the icon of "Unexpected Joy".
    • Turn to this icon of the Virgin Mary you can like these words:

      from laziness and despondency

      Prayer to Alexander Rimsky will help those who constantly delight themselves with “nothing prone”, spends all the time all the time in the time idle affairs, cannot pull himself together and collect his thoughts. It is worth noting that this appeal is one of the most powerful and effective.

      “Lord Jesus Christ, listen to Thy servant who suffers for Thy name, and give Thy grace; let, where my memory will be honored, miraculously heal the sick to the glory of Thy name.

      In the earthly vale we are tormented by many sorrows, troubles close, embarrassed by a storm of temptations and temptations, dejected by various diseases, we weaken in spirit and fall into despondency and spend the short days of our life and inaction. having no acquisition behind us, since we have no good works by which we could be justified in the future life and receive eternal blessedness.

      Therefore, we implore you, holy martyr Alexander, help us to cast off the burden of negligence and laziness, so that we can boldly embark on the exploits of diligence and remain firm in striving and doing spiritual things while gaining salvation for you.

      And hear our prayer for the sick, Saint Alexander, and heal us, suffering from bodily and spiritual ailments, appearing to help us, because before your death, you prayed for those who would honor your memory, so that they would be they are free from all diseases.

      So, take care of us who honor your memory and save us from illnesses and the weak who call you, heal, so that the name of God will be glorified by all at all times. Amen" .

      Prayer for depression to St. Tikhon

      Prayer for depression, anguish and despair is a sincere appeal to the joy of God, a cry for help when strong emotional depression appears.

      “O all-praised saint and saint of Christ, our father Tikhon! Having lived like an angel on earth, you appeared like a good angel and in your wondrous glorification.

      We believe with all our heart and thought that you, our merciful helper and prayer book, with your unfalse intercessions and grace, richly granted to you by the Lord, constantly contribute to our salvation.

      Accept, blessed servant of Christ, and at this hour our unworthy of prayer: freedom by your intercession from the vainglory and superstition that surrounds us, unbelief and malevolence.

      Care, quick intercessor for us, implore the Lord with your favorable intercession, may His great and rich mercy be granted to us His sinful and unworthy servants, may His grace heal the incurable ulcers and scabs of our corrupt souls and bodies, may the petrified hearts be dissolved our tears of tenderness and contrition for our many sins, and may he deliver us from eternal torment and the fire of Gehenna: may all His faithful people grant peace and quiet, health and salvation and good haste in everything, yes taco, quiet and silent having lived a life in all piety and purity, vouchsafe me with the angels and with all the saints to glorify and sing the All-Holy Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen".

      Vasilisa Sorokina

      The most powerful prayer (The best way to deal with stress)

      Do you ever experience stress?
      Probably, there are.
      Everyone has them.

      The best way to deal with stress is prayer.

      The topic of prayer is limitless.

      Let's consider here only a small episode - prayer under severe stress.

      Those methods and practices that I will talk about are methods that I have thought over and tested for not even a year or two, but more than a dozen years.

      And all possible and accessible literature on this subject has been re-read.

      But nowhere have I come across just a brief description of extremely specific, proven methods.
      So we will formulate at the end of this article such a description of the method of strong prayer, short, practical, in a few lines.

      Once a friend who lives in America told me that crime is much higher there than in our country.

      I assumed:
      - This is probably because you have a cult of money, and you have to get money in any way?

      And he:
      - No, the reason is that there is much more stress in America. And from them - more crime.

      So he thinks.
      He knows better, he lived in Russia, and now - in a small town in America.
      And even in a small town high crime and high stress.

      Everyone experiences stress.
      We talked about this several times (interesting links are given below).

      But every time you come to the conclusion:
      - The best way to deal with stress is prayer.

      Pray - and you will overcome stress.
      And if you don't win?

      Pray twice as much.
      And if you still don't win?

      Pray. And we'll tell you how.

      Do you ever have such all-consuming stresses that sweep away everything in their path?

      In this case, there is a method of phased prayer - How to purify the soul if the flow of passions is overwhelming?

      What to do if you pray all day long, but there is no point - too much stress?

      Are there any powerful methods?

      I have always thought and I think now that the power of prayer is enormous, but if it is not enough, then it is stronger - only the prayer that you have been praying every day for the last 10 years until today.

      That is, if you decide to pray for the first time today, your prayer is weak.

      But if you prayed 10 years before and did it well, then your prayer today is a thousand times stronger.

      Here we take the average case.

      We do not take the case of God's grace, when a person received his sight in one day and became a saint.
      It's good for him - to whom the grace of God.

      But none of us is holy, all are sinners.

      To receive God's grace is like receiving a rich inheritance.
      But who does not have a guaranteed inheritance - he needs to work and work.

      I travel a lot by car.
      My favorite phrase about cars is:
      The only reliable way to arrive early is to leave early.

      And there is only one way to pray well today - you need to pray the whole year before this, and preferably all 10 years before that.

      So the secret of prayer is both simple and complex at the same time.

      Simple - because it sounds simple,
      but complex - because try to pray for 10 years.

      That's all right.

      But maybe there are methods to somehow pray especially strongly if the stress is very strong?

      We understand that we should have thought earlier, that we should have prayed 10 years before.

      But what is - that is.
      You can't change the past, but you need to overcome stress or a whole brigade of devils today, right now.

      What to do?

      In this case, there are such methods of strengthening prayer:

      1. The rosary helps a lot to focus on prayer.
      For me - wooden rosaries for 100 peas are the best.

      2. If the prayer is going hard and you can't get rid of obsessive thoughts - the most powerful way:
      record your favorite prayer on a dictaphone.

      I usually use the voice recorder on my smartphone. It's pretty loud and has a pretty good microphone.
      You can burn a prayer to a disc.
      I recorded a disc of prayers for myself in order to listen in the car on the road or in a traffic jam.
      You can use either the prayer of the Optina elders or the 50th psalm, everyone chooses to their liking.

      When praying, be sure to keep your eyes open, even better - look at the icon.
      Through experience, I found that if you close your eyes, it is much more difficult to keep your thoughts on prayer.
      I love the Old Novgorod icon of the Savior. But this is very individual for everyone, everyone chooses his own.

      And in parallel with the prayer from the recorder, one must also pray another prayer (short and easy to pronounce, so as not to stray, the best of all is the Jesus Prayer).
      And you need to pray with the rosary.

      Our head is arranged in such a way that when we think one thing (or pray), that is, the second level of our consciousness, where other thoughts wander, there is also a third level, but it is already weaker.
      On one level we are praying, but on another level our thoughts wander:
      - Did I turn off the iron?
      - Doesn't the neighbor in the garden steal cucumbers from us?

      And if we occupy the first level with a short prayer, and at the second level we have a prayer from a voice recorder, then it will be much more difficult for all sorts of rubbish thoughts and all sorts of distractions to penetrate and survive in our consciousness.

      This is the most powerful way to use at home.

      It is clear that even stronger is to go to pray on Mount Athos or on Valaam.

      But prayer is needed more often than we get a chance to get there.

      A short way of powerful prayer:

      1. Icon (I usually take the icon of the Old Novgorod Savior, but each has his own)
      2. Prayer of the Optina Elders on the recorder (each has his own prayer).
      3. We read the Jesus Prayer aloud ourselves.
      4. Rosary for 100 peas. 1 prayer - 1 pea.

      We pray for at least 15 minutes, normally - an hour.
      If it's still hard - repeat in the evening again.

      UPD 06.06.15

      I would add two more important points:

      1. It is especially important - the more you practice, the more it helps, the more effective prayer is.
      I wrote this post in 2012. And now I'm reading - everything is very relevant.
      But now I have a little more experience. And prayer is much more effective.
      It somehow imperceptibly affects, but it is very well felt.

      2. Now, in case of severe stress, I would also use a technique that is not explicitly mentioned here - the "pilot chute" technique.
      That is, in the most difficult situation, you must first pray for about 5 minutes.
      But it will be - "pilot chute".
      It will start acting on its own.
      After 5 minutes of prayer, which will go badly and will not give a noticeable effect, you need to wait a while, doing your own thing. 10-20-40 minutes.
      And then he will pray again, a little longer.
      The condition will be much better.
      If it's still hard and the prayer doesn't go, then take a break again. Then again and again.
      For the third or fourth time, we will feel that we are coping with the situation.
