right versus wrong

Twenty five year old john derek. When david may be in serious legal trouble, his parents (lee cobb and erin obrien moore) can't agree on what to do. Dad is an attorney, and certainly knows the law inside and out. To make matters worse, it involves their best friends. Small role for familiar face whit bissell. Some heavy issues in this suspense drama.... having the courage to do the right thing, as well as damaged family communication. Right versus wrong tackled in the 1950s in films. It's very well done, although they could have left out the over the top drunk scene where david acts like a total jerk. Cobb was nominated for two films in the 1950s, and appeared in the HUAC congressional hearings. Directed by henry levin. Directed a couple biggies, but looks like he never got the oscar. Check out john derek's story on wikipedia; he sure covered a lot of ground.

Great Read!

Lowell and Austyn move into his parents mansion after their suspicious death. The family is totally dysfunctional and there’s a lot of money and assets at stake. Family secrets are revealed.
This was a pretty screwed up twisted read. I couldn’t hardly put it down.

Kiersten Modglin is one of those authors that writes in a way where you get lost in the story and you blink and it’s done and you’ve been reading for hours even if it’s felt like minutes. This book is no exception. Austyn has known and been with Lowell for years and while she knew he came from money she hasn’t met his family and is caught off guard when’s he goes to his family home with him after his parents die in an unexpected accident. The family home, The Pond, isn’t a house but more of a mansion or castle. As Austyn adjusts to the surprises that Lowell throws her way she also tries to learn more about his family and home. But of course there are secrets (this is a K-Mod book after all) and twists and turns that she never could have predicted.

This newly released book by Kiersten Modglin is a fun ride, with a good plot and interesting characters and settings. This author always brings forth good books. It was an enjoyable read. Good work!

Kiersten Modglin outdid herself with this one! I finished this book in 2 days because I could not put it down. First of all, I love her writing style, like I have in all of her other books I’ve read. Second, the plot turned out to be so much more complex by the end than what I was expecting. Third, as the reader, I really became invested in Austyn and could feel her pain, anger, love, etc. The characters were easy to “get to know,” or at least how she wanted you to know them 😉. And lastly, the queen of twists really gives you an ending that you could not have guessed! This one was no exception to that. I was surprised and impressed by where she took this one. and the ending was suspenseful and had me turning the pages faster than I thought possible! This book has ALL the family drama, suspense, thrills, love, and heartbreak in under 300 pages. I’m giving this one 4.5 out of 5 stars, rounding up to 5 on goodreads!

The Family Secret is a thriller which I didn't feel any thrills. Nothing much happened in the book except for the last few chapters.

The plot was predictable and it was quite easy to figure out the ending. I didn't have any issues with the above but I just needed better writing.

I was surprised by the ratings, so I guess I'm not the right person for this book.

Houses have feelings...

Austyn and Lowell are newly engaged and celebrating at a party when they get word that Lowell's parents have both (unexpectedly) died. They are being summoned home to his family's estate for the funeral and reading of the will.

Austyn soon learns houses have feelings... and families have secrets. And before long, she is embroiled in a life or death hunt for answers!

There's a reason Kiersten Modglin is a master of psychological thrillers! The suspense begins when you read the synopsis, continues to the first page, and then without realizing it, you've read the entire book because you couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

I was intrigued to see how Modglin portrayed the uber-wealthy and how all the characters would develop and grow amidst that backdrop. While there wasn't a lot of "growth" per se, there are enough solid five-star twists that ultimately produce a super-villain, that you can overlook the somewhat over-the-top turns!

This was my first book by Modglin outside of The Arrangement universe and I'm eager to see what else she's written that might be equally addictive and readable!

And I oop!

I wasn't expecting this to get so intense but those final chapters were nuts! This was a domestic drama that was easy to follow and had characters that drew you in, good or bad. I couldn't stop reading. Ugh, I love K.Mod!

Ahh a book about wealthy people and their scheming ways. That never gets old for me and when KMod writes the book it’s even better. When I settle in with one of her books I know I’m in good hands and will be getting ready to take a wild ride of some kind. You never know what to expect or exactly what you’re in for, but I always know I’ll be entertained and surprised. This book was no exception and it had me in its clutches from the start. There were some scenes towards the end that I never could’ve seen coming, so shocking but also so wickedly fun. Another fun read from the queen of the binge worthy thriller for sure!

Austyn just learned that her fiancé's parents died. So, of course, they travel to his family home. It’s her first time meeting the Bass siblings, her first time entering the house. And all she can feel is the weight of its secrets.

OKAY KIERSTEN. This is a one-stop read. You won’t be able to put it down once you start- it’s that good.

I enjoyed how this story was told. The emotional elements were so deep and genuine. The weight of grief is palpable, and it okayed such a big part in this story.

I found the way this story was told interesting. I could feel the anxiety, panic, and fear Austyn was experiencing the deeper she fell into this plot.

I loved the concept of houses telling stories, and I loved seeing this house as a character. It was very creative. I also loved the idea of memory and how much our memories are based on what we are told.

Photographs help, as they did in this book. A picture is worth a thousand words. No more valid words have ever been uttered. This was a pulse-pounding thrill ride from start to finish.

What I would love to see next is the backstory. Celine’s story. Because there is a lot more hiding in The Pond.

Lowell Bass is heir to a large company and an even larger estate. It's not something he's properly introduced to his new fiancee, Austyn, however. She's dunked into it all when Lowell's parents suddenly both pass away from an 'accident.' It's clear the place, and the family, have long histories tangled with complications and secrets. What's not clear is her new future as her fiancee takes over everything his parents left behind. And then an old friend she hasn't spoken to in years calls, telling of her impending divorce and asking to stay with Austyn. Lowell graciously offers she stay at the estate, and that's the moment I knew things were headed for an explosion.

I was sure I knew where this was headed but I was surprised by so many twists and the ending. This book makes you wonder what the painfully rich are really up to behind closed doors.

Lowell Bass needs to return home as both his parents died suddenly. His fiancée Austyn Murphy goes with him and quickly can tell that things are not quite right. Their stay is lengthened because of the complications of the reading of the will, as well as what might happen to the family business. The longer they stay the more it seems likely that Lowell never intends on leaving. This does not bode well for Austyn. She loves Lowell but she owns her own business, a bakery, and she needs to be near her mother as her mother relies on her.

Austyn knew that Lowell had money, but what she did not realize is that he and his family are richer than rich. Meanwhile, there is a lot of tension between his siblings Fallon and Dallas. Then there is the matter as to how their parents died. At first it was said to be an accident, but it was actually an overdose, one that was suspicious.

One day Austyn finds a book deep in a in the closet. It appears that the book is a journal and the writer was a 16-year-old named Celine. Austyn soon realizes that the journal had something to do with the Bass family and she has determined to find out everything she can about the journal and about whatever could’ve happened to that girl. All the while Austyn begins to see changes in Lowell. Her treatment from his siblings is odd. Fallon seems very distant, and there is just something about Dallas that makes her very nervous.

To further complicate matters, her best friend has broken up with her husband and Austyn and Lowell invite her to stay in his family’s home. Her name is Emily and Austyn is really concerned that something more is going on with Emily than she can make sense of. Meanwhile, she continues to read the journal, and, although she’s not sure why, she keeps the secret about the journal, and what she is reading about the girl that was named Celine.

This fabulous story dealt with secrets, lies and some shocking twists and turns. Kiersten Modglin has done it again. She has written a book that kept me riveted to my Kindle and I could not tap my screen fast enough. For an exciting and thrilling story, The Family Secret definitely fits the bill.

Kiersten has a writing style that is so easy to read and immerse yourself into. This story about wealth and greed includes a seemingly side note that makes you anxious to see how they will intertwine. This novel reads like a mystery, and it resolves itself into nice, cozy feelings.

The Family Secret is Modglin at her very best. When you start reading this, you won’t be able to put it down until your finished – I should know, I read it in one sitting. Modglin has a way of perfectly writing her characters in such a way that you can feel what they are feeling – the anxiety, the fear, and the sorrow. While this is technically a domestic suspense thriller, there is much more to this book than that. It really makes the reader think about how well do we really know someone – your significant other; your best friend; your college roommate? I can honestly say that I haven’t read anything else like this book, and that is another reason that it is so enjoyable. Modglin successfully tricked me again – I still can never figure out her twists!! I highly recommend this book, and believe it needs to be read by anyone that enjoys a thriller book.

My favorite thing about this author is how she throws little breadcrumbs at you…..you think you are on to something…..like you’ve FINALLY figured out the twist before the twist. I am floored every time and ALWAYS wrong.

The Family Secret is no different. The story starts out calm, things get a little crazy…..then a lot crazy…..to full blown chaos. You are supposed to have calm and zen before bed but I could not stop reading this until I knew how it ended.

The Family Secret is dark, tantalizing and OHHH SO scandalous. I loved every minute of this mind boggling thriller!

This is one of the best psych thrillers that I have ever read! With a touch of a gothic type spooky setting and a wealthy, entitled family as the featured characters, what could go wrong when Austyn Murphy travels to the family home with her fiancé Lowell Bass after the death of his parents? The answer is everything that could possibly happen in the imagination of this creative genius of an author happened and more! Austyn is fooled by appearances at first, just as I was ingeniously drawn into the trap of riches and charm as I read. I learned quickly not to trust the characters and always to look for hidden motives and unexpected twists. The twisting and turning made this book absolutely unforgettable, haunting and so riveting that it was hard to put down. The pace was quick, the characters were realistic (even the bad guys were believably villain-like) and the entire scenario was like a movie set that was playing in my head as I dove into the book to find out who was really telling the truth and what was the “family secret.” After finishing the book, I just shook my head at how Kiersten Modglin has once again turned normal, everyday events into something that is fiction on steroids, with actions that could happen but everyone hopes that it won’t happen to them. No disappointment here…one of the best I have read from this author and hands down the one that needs to be made into a movie!

Loved this book so many twists I couldn't figure it out and wanted to savor the book so took a while to read it but still have to wait till the next Kiersten Moglin book it's so hard to wait for her books they are just that good!!!

This one immediately hooked me when Austyn’s fiancée’s parents both die in an accident. He’s tight-lipped about it, and she assumes it’s him processing; however, it soon becomes clear that Lowell’s family has secrets that the Bass family will stop at nothing to protect. And just when you think things seem like they can’t get any more twisted, K-MOD throws in Austyn’s best friend to be on the crazy ride of ups and downs and flips. For the first time, I thought the main twist was obvious, and was I ever wrong! Again living up to her title, The Queen of Twists has done it again!

What a truly incredible, mind blowing read! If you love stories that keep you on the edge of your seat throughout, then this is the story for you! The number of times I tried to guess what would happen next, is endless. This author has such a way of keeping the twists and turns coming, that I just couldn’t put this book down. Austyn is engaged to Lowell Bass, who comes from a wealthy family. They are young and in love and have their whole future in front of them until tragedy strikes. And that tragedy is what changes everyone’s lives.

The depths of emotions I felt while reading this are unreal. My heart stopped so many times while reading this! I needed to know what was going to happen next and I never would have figured it out! What a story! True brilliance!

This house has ears is all I could think as I was reading this dark, mesmerizing and highly original thriller with BIG twists in all the right places. The line between good versus evil blurs
with KM's knack for well rounded characters.

Wow, not sure where to even begin with this one. When I started this one I really had no idea what to expect but it definitely wasn't that!

In true KMod fashion, she left me with my jaw on the ground from shock.

Each time I thought I had things all figured out a new twist would slap me in the face and make me rethink everything I thought I knew.

Family secrets again are part of this page turner. I have never been disappointed in a Modglin book and this one does not disappoint. Austyn is marrying Lowell....rich, handsome and evil. She accompanies him to his parents house who have recently died and is in for a treat. How well does anyone really know another person? Austyn is about to find out.

Did not see this one coming and I am pretty good at figuring out the plots. This book is a page turner and another great read from this author.

Family secrets always come back to haunt you and in Kiersten Modglin’s latest thriller the mansion in the story, also known as “The Pond”, holds the key to what happened in the past and how it would affect the new residents in the present. Everything about Lowell Bass and his family gave me the creeps and caused me to distrust all of them. The circumstances surrounding their parents' untimely deaths were murky and no one seemed too upset they were gone. Lowell was all about gaining power as the new CEO of the company and poor Austyn, his fiancee, was concerned that his new position had made him into someone she didn’t recognize. Austyn wondered if she had missed something about his personality, or had she subconsciously ignored any warning signs because she was so in love with him? Now she was surrounded by a family she knew very little about, staff who refused to talk to her, and an eerie feeling that the house was trying to tell her something.

I painstakingly poured over the clues that Ms. Modglin had left throughout the book as to what might happen when all the secrets would be revealed. Not surprisingly, I was wrong about the relationships between the characters, the endgame of the protagonist and the reaction they had when the final scene was played out. Would there be a happy ending for Austyn, or was she correct in her assumption that everything was not as it seemed at “The Pond”?

This is the author’s BEST book since “The Arrangement”! It has all the suspense and thrills you crave, but the incredibly tangled web of deceit and fraud is in this one is

I love Kiersten Modglin’s style of writing. The words just flow and make for an exciting, fast paced thriller. Ya following me so far? Ha! I could just hear her questioning me when I got to THAT part. Not so breezy now huh?!

VERY rich. I loved listening to this in one sitting. How far will the Bass family go to protect the family name and keep all their secrets hidden? Money can make families do crazy things and can pit one member against another in this case. Lowell's parents were killed and now he brings his fiance home to meet the family. Austyn had no idea how rich Lowell was and it takes her awhile to get use to all the staff and being waited on.

She discovers a journal and realizes she may have made a mistake coming here and getting engaged to Lowell. Will she be able to get out alive?

I just loved the narrator and although it starts off slow hang in there as there are twists coming along quickly to throw you for a loop. Kiersten Modglin does not dissapoint. Now the hardest part is waiting for next book to come out.

Only one can be head of the family so who will it be?

Everyone's right to family secrecy is guaranteed in Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. According to Article 150 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, a family secret is an intangible good, belongs to a citizen from birth or by virtue of law, is inalienable and non-transferable in any other way. Article 152.2 of the Civil Code RF recorded a ban on the collection, storage, distribution and use of any information about the private life of a citizen without his consent, in particular information about his origin, place of his stay or residence, personal and family life. Unlawful dissemination of information obtained in violation of the law about the private life of a citizen is considered, in particular, its use in the creation of works of science, literature and art, if such use violates the interests of a citizen.

Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation defines criminal punishment for the illegal collection or dissemination of information about the private life of a person constituting his personal or family secret, without his consent, or for the dissemination of this information in a public speech, publicly displayed work or mass media.

In accordance with Article 25 of the Federal Law of October 22, 2004 No. 125-FZ "On Archives in the Russian Federation", access to archival documents containing information about the personal and family secrets of a citizen is restricted for a period of 75 years from the date of creation of these documents.
