    The Zafu and Zabuton Meditation Cushion Set includes one Zafu (round cushion) with your choice of Buckwheat Hull or Kapok fill and one Zabuton (rectangular mat) filled with cotton batting. Each cushion is available in an Economy version where the fill is directly enclosed in the 100% Cotton Twill fabric in your choice of color, or a Deluxe version where the fill is enclosed in muslin fabric and the cover in your choice of color is removable and washable. Mix and Match colors as you wish.

    The Zafu cushion is the traditional round meditation cushion used by meditators everywhere. This is a durable and supportive cushion for sitting meditation and, when turned on its edge, can be used for kneeling meditation known as Seiza. The height of this cushion is perfect for most people regardless of height, weight, or level of flexibility. The Buckwheat Hull fill can easily be adjusted through the zippered opening that is hidden in the pleat directly across from the carry handle of the cushion.

    Both the Deluxe and Economy Zabuton are filled with dense cotton batting with  tufting stitches through the cotton batting to prevent the batting from bunching up. The Deluxe Zabuton has a removable cover in your choice of color - the cotton batting is sewn into muslin fabric. The Removable Cover of the Deluxe Zabuton produces a smooth surface. The Economy Zabuton does not have a removable cover - the cotton batting is sewn directly into the cotton twill fabric in your choice of color. The Tufting Stitches of the Economy Zabuton produces a dimpled surface.

      This thing is like a cat bed for humans. I now own 3 different giant zabutons. This one is my favorite. I switch up the little pillow (the zafu) that goes on top. I like the cotton stuffed zabuton and the buckwheat stuffed zafus. I like the moon shaped zafu the best.

      I can't speak to the actual product quality, as the set was a birthday gift for my son, However, the customer service of this company is excellent When I received the order, one of the items was the wrong color. I completed their website contact screen and I had a reply within an hour (after hours on a Friday). They shipped a cover of the correct color and included a postage paid envelope to return the incorrect cover quickly. Within a week, my son had exactly what he wanted and is excited about using them for his meditation.

      After years of folding throw pillows into a makeshift Zafu, I finally decided it was time to get a real one. I hesitated on whether the Zabuton was worth it for me -- and am so glad I went for it. The washable cover has proven essential, because my dog agrees that the Zabuton is amazingly comfortable and whenever I leave it out I find him asleep on it.

    Why mention tips?

    Before we continue, it may be helpful to talk a little about what you need to do to start your practice (or help a friend start one). Here are the basic meditation tips we recommend for beginners.

It is traditionally thought to be sitting on a meditation cushion (or zafu) and cultivating a quiet time in which you try to increase self-awareness and calm the mind from hectic thoughts and feelings. However, we are not talking about completely turning off, and certainly not about "not thinking". Thinking is absolutely acceptable, but with practice you will notice when and why you think. It is very important to be aware of your thoughts, but not dwell on them, and meditation teaches this.

    Sounds confusing?

    Of course, we are not trying to confuse you. On the contrary, we are trying to convey to you how difficult this mindfulness practice can be and why it is very important for a beginner to learn from an expert. Although you can find a lot of information on how to meditate on the Internet, a real teacher has a deep understanding of this practice. They are the best resource for knowing the true spirit of the practice.

    2. Schedule your time on the pillow

    While your overall goal may be to practice meditation daily, you can never just randomly "find time" to go to the mat. Instead, you should schedule it, just like you schedule everything else in your life: exercise classes, appointments at work, visits to the dentist, and so on.

    The good news is that if you lead a busy lifestyle, there are several ways to make your "meetings" with the meditation cushion much more likely. For example, if you're constantly on the road, you can schedule private classes held virtually through our streaming service with a teacher or group.

    3. Exercise where you want.

    Your practice will inevitably be more successful if you create a comfortable and relaxing space. In this space, you can have a meditation mat, a pillow or pillow, and all the other supplies and environment you need for strong practice. For many people, the ideal place is their own home.

    4. Meditate with others.

    In the Buddhist tradition, a sangha is a community of spiritual practitioners who meditate together. Of course, they also practice the Dharma of Buddhism together and promote the realization of love, harmony and mutual understanding. While it may not be possible for your community to create or participate in a sangha, you can still get the gist of this idea by practicing meditation with others, even with your entire family, colleagues, or friends.

    1. White Sage Smear Stick

    Many meditation instructors and practitioners burn sage before meditation. It is a helpful way to open up the senses and promote clarity and focus. If sage is used for meditation, burning it is called "smearing". The sage burning ritual aims to cleanse the energy in your space. To do this, light the sage with a match and let it burn gently for a few moments. The sage can then be gently waved by hand until a wisp of smoke begins to come out of it. The soothing, calming scent is perfect to start a meditation session.

    2. Zafu

    What is zafu? This funny name may seem like a reference to something cosmic, but a zafu is just a type of meditation cushion. Traditional zafu is usually round in shape and is usually solid to support you while you practice.

    Specifically, you want the zafu to support your hip joints so they turn outward easily, and (as mentioned above) it should help your knees be lower than your hips. This will make sitting for long periods of time much more comfortable. If your knees are higher than your hips (as is the case when you sit cross-legged on a flat surface such as the floor), your sacrum will be vertical or even tilted back. Instead, the sacrum should be at a 30° angle while sitting.

    Like other meditation accessories, most zafu pillows are filled with buckwheat husks. You can choose the color, design and fabric you want for your zafu. There are many options to suit your unique taste.

    3. Zabuton

    Zabuton is most often combined with zafu. A set of zafu and zabuton is a common meditation seat choice. It is these chairs that are often installed for practitioners in meditation centers.

    Zabutons are a type of meditation mat designed to be placed under a zafu or other meditation cushion to cushion the knees and feet. Depending on which position you choose on the zafu, the zabuton can provide extra comfort and stability. In fact, it is the basis for zafu. Like zafu, zabutons come in a variety of colors, designs, and fabrics. They are usually filled with polyfill, just like regular pillows.

    4. Meditation chair

    Some people may prefer a meditation chair to a meditation cushion or cushion (zafu or zen cushion). In this case, you can use a regular chair to sit on, but just like with a cushion, you'll want to switch to a legal chair when you continue your practice.

    Many people who find it difficult to kneel, bend their knees, or sit on the ground for long periods choose a chair over a meditation cushion or meditation mat.

    What is a meditation chair? The meditation chair can be of different styles. It often looks like a regular comfortable chair with a back and legs, but the key difference is that the legs are very short. For example, it may rise only four to eight inches above the ground.

    What all chairs have in common is that they allow you to take an optimal position for comfortable meditation. There are different designs to help with different postures and possible physical difficulties that can make using a meditation cushion impossible.

    5. Meditation mat

    The meditation mat can be a zabuton (see above) or it can look like a yoga mat. Most importantly, the meditation mat is placed under the meditation cushion or meditation cushion to provide the base for the cushion. If you are sitting cross-legged, your knees can rest on the meditation mat for added comfort.

    6. Meditation cushion

    The meditation cushion is probably the most essential item in your space. Believe it or not, sitting while meditating can be quite physically demanding, especially when you move on to prolonged sitting.

    It may be in the form of a zafu (see below) or in another form. For example, you can purchase a Zen pillow or cushion. You can even use a regular sofa cushion as a pillow when you first start out. However, as you improve your practice and increase the amount of time you sit, you will want to invest in a regular meditation cushion made specifically for this course.

    You will need this cushion because in many ways a meditation cushion is different from a regular sofa cushion. First, it is more rigid. Most practice pillows are stuffed with buckwheat (or sometimes beans). The purpose of your pillow is to keep your knees lower than your hip bones, so it needs to be firmer. This is especially true for the most common meditation posture: cross-legged and knees in front of you.

    7. Meditation timer

    Most meditation sessions are timed, but if you are meditating alone or in a small group without a guide, you will need to time yourself. This means that you should purchase a meditation timer for yourself or for those you are giving a meditation gift to.

    Meditation timers can be regular kitchen or watch timers. You can even use the timer on your phone. But even better is to find a timer that you set yourself, especially as a meditation timer. In general, it's a good practice to keep your phone away from your meditation area, as it can be distracting if you get notifications all the time.

    It is also good if the meditation timer has a soft and gentle signal so that you are not awakened from the state of meditation by a loud and sharp sound. A bell or the soft sound of a gong can be a good way out of meditation.

    If you want to use something analog (non-digital), consider an hourglass or a timer. Just make sure you know how long the hourglass lasts. As an alternative, try a backlit timer (one that lights up, turns off the lights, or changes color as the time elapses).

    8. Tibetan singing bowl set

    The sound of Tibetan singing bowls can calm you in an instant3. That's why they're perfect for getting into the spirit of meditation. Tibetan bowls vary in shape and diameter. Often, during Buddhist religious ceremonies or as an accompaniment for chants, several bowls are used at once. A mallet is used to play the bowls and make them sing. The hammer can be driven along the rim of the bowl or gently hit it.

    Singing bowls make beautiful sounds that calm the mind and raise the inner vibrations, helping to relieve stress and create space in a tense mind. Singing bowls have positive effects on physical health, including inflammation and chronic pain.

    9. Meditation Shawl

    Some people may find it convenient to wear a meditation shawl while meditating. Even if it is not necessary, a meditation shawl (also known as a meditation blanket or prayer shawl) can protect the body, providing additional comfort and a sense of security. Some practitioners love meditation shawls because they believe that the closeness of the cover aids in the accumulation of energy created during meditation.

    10. A beautiful journal

    Journaling is an important part of the meditation process. Although you can achieve great results in self-reflection and personal growth during your practice, putting it into words is a powerful tool to enhance the effect of this spiritual practice.
