We made it! After months of chilly days, puffy coats and 4 p.m. sunsets, spring is finally here. That can only mean one thing (and we don't mean spring cleaning ...) — it's time for a getaway. We're ready to pack our bags with our sunnies and favorite warm-weather attire, and get the heck out of [insert your current cold, boring location here]. And we know you are, too — according to Google Trends, "spring break 2023" and "when is spring break" have been top search terms for the past week.

Whatever your spring break looks like, whether it be a low-key weekend with friends or family or buying a plane ticket to any destination with a beach, you need to be prepared. And if you've forgotten what that looks like after a long, dreary winter, we recommend turning to Target as your one-stop shop for all your vacay needs.

From a flattering one-piece bathing suit (that's under $35!) to a moisturizing SPF lip balm (yes, even your pout needs sun protection), the retailer has just what you need to make travel a breeze and help you have more fun in the sun. We even found a $1 packing solution that makes it easy to take your favorite beauty products on the go (and prevents them from spilling inside your luggage). Keep scrolling to add all nine finds to your packing list ASAP.

Shop the individual items below (starting as low as $1!) or add all of them to your cart at once and check out directly at target. com. You can also get free shipping on orders $35 and up, or with a Target RedCard.

Up & Up Travel Cosmetic Jar

Raise your hand if you've spent too much on travel-sized beauty products — or worse, forgotten to unpack your large bottle of expensive lotion, forcing you to throw it away (and cry) at the airport.

One way to avoid these travel snafus is to grab a few of these cosmetic jars, small enough to pass through TSA and large enough to carry 1.25 ounces of your must-have skin care items. The reusable containers are made with clear materials for easy access and a secure twist cap to avoid spills. And the best part is they're just 75 cents each!

Cupshe Bright Day Shirring One Piece Swimsuit

Target shoppers can't stop talking about this stunning one-piece swimsuit. Satisfied customers rave about the flattering fit and the ruched detailing. One five-star reviewer who says they're in their 50s even called it the "best suit I've ever worn," adding that the suit hasn't pilled, snagged or faded, despite many wears. "This looks like a really high-end suit!" they said. "It's super comfortable, flattering and just the right amount of va-voom."

Shade & Shore Packable Paper Straw Floppy Hat

Complete your vacation outfits with the ultimate accessory: a floppy sun hat. Not only will it protect your scalp from painful UV rays (the brand says it has a 50+ UPF rating!), but it also has a packable design, so it won't get ruined in your luggage. For $10, we're ready to grab one in every color for all our outfits.

Open Story Packing Cubes (Set of 4)

If you're guilty of overpacking, but refuse to change your ways, we support you. In fact, we'd recommend these packing cubes to help you stuff as many items into your luggage as possible — after all, you can never have too many outfit options.

The four-pack set includes three rectangular cubes (in sizes S, M and L) and a shoe tote, all designed with a soft material and mesh detailing so you know what's inside each one. Each one also includes an attached handle or drawstring to make transporting a breeze, and you have your choice of two shades: taupe or lilac.

A New Day Sleeveless Ruched Ponte Dress

If there's one thing to remember while on spring break, it's that comfort is key. That's why a soft and stretchy one-and-done dress, like this chic sleeveless style, is a must-have clothing item. For a quick and effortless look, this midi style from A New Day is a great option, especially if you like the fit and feel of spandex and a lightweight polyester. Some stand-out details include a boat neckline, a ruched side and a tasteful slit to show off a little (hopefully sun-kissed) leg.

Shade & Shore Women's Lucia Slide Sandals

Time to book that pedicure, because it's officially sandal season — or at least while you're on spring break it is. The best part about these slide-on options — other than the cute knotted design and three chic colorways — is that they're designed with your comfort in mind. The heel, footbed and insole are all cushioned, so you can look and feel good no matter where you're stepping.

WMP Eyewear Metal Temple Round Polarized Sunglasses

Out of nearly 400 reviews, 85 percent gave these cool shades a perfect five-star rating. Between this and the $30 price tag, that's all the convincing we need to grab a pair (or three). If you need a few more reasons to shop them, they have polarized lenses, come in five different frame patterns and lens colors and offer 100 percent UV protection, according to the brand.

Sun Bum Lip Balm SPF 30

Do we even have to say it? Not only is sunscreen recommended for daily use, thorough application on a spring break trip isn't up for debate. But, according to dermatologists, protecting your lips from harmful UV rays is just as important.

These Sun Bum lip balms are designed to ensure your pout stays hydrated, nourished and soft all day long. The formula includes skin-enriching ingredients like vitamin E and aloe vera to keep lips feeling smooth and moisturized, the brand says. Plus, this multi-pack comes in three spring break-inspired flavors — coconut, banana and watermelon.

Wild Fable Midi Tote Handbag

Now that you have all of the essentials, make sure you have the proper bag to store everything in. The midi tote features a spacious main compartment as well as several interior and exterior pockets. We're obsessed with the fruit-inspired stitching. But if you prefer a simpler pattern, it also comes in a bright summer-ready yellow shade as well as black with subtle floral detailing.

Scientists have found a universal way to calm crying babies

To calm a crying baby, it’s not enough just to hold him in your arms - scientists, using the example of physiological indicators of 22 children, showed that first a child needs to be rocked for 5 minutes, and then sit with him in his arms for 5-8 minutes . After such a procedure, he calms down and falls asleep soundly. The study is published in Current Biology .

An infant may start screaming and crying on the street, in a store, on an airplane or in bed at any time of the day, which causes discomfort not only to parents and strangers, but also to the child himself. It is already known that babies have a transport reaction - usually a small child stops crying when the mother goes and carries him in her arms. However, the full range of behavioral responses and the universal way to calm a child is still unclear.

A team of researchers from the RIKEN Institute's Brain Research Center, led by Kumi O. Kuroda, studied the relationship between physiological responses and infant behavior in order to find a universal technique to help the child calm down.

The study involved 22 children from 0 to 7 months and their biological mothers. Scientists conducted 32 sessions of measuring the behavior and well-being of children in different conditions. In these experiments, the mothers performed a series of four tasks: "Go-hold", when the mother held the baby in her arms and walked; "Sit-hold" - the mother held the baby and sat; "Bed" - the child was placed in a crib; and "Moving in the Crib", in which the infant was placed either in a mobile crib or in a stroller and rocked back and forth. Each task lasted from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. This design of the experiment made it possible to separate the effects of interaction with the mother and movement, two sensory components that activate the transport response. During the tasks, an ECG signal was taken from the infants, and their behavioral reactions were also recorded on the camera: facial expressions, vocalization, body movements, and opening/closing of the eyes. The ECG and the recorded video were synchronized to understand how physiological and behavioral indicators correlate.

To assess the relationship between behavior and physiology, scientists introduced an ISS index, which was assigned to each heartbeat: during sleep, ISS was equal to 1, during quiet wakefulness - ISS = 0, and -1 point corresponded to strong crying. The researchers then calculated the mean ISS over a 30-second interval (mISS). The scientists also evaluated the average number of intervals between heartbeats (mIBI index) in children.

In the end, the research team found a correlation between the infants' physiological performance and the tasks their mothers performed.

Crying babies stopped crying after walking with them in their arms, and their mISS and mIBI indices increased. It was the fact of movement that influenced the increase in both indices (mISS, t = 6.28, df = 54.26, p < 0.001; mIBI, t = 6.57, df = 54.12, p < 0.001). After a 5-minute walk, 5 out of 11 babies (45.5 percent) fell asleep, and none of them cried by the end of the task, and two more babies (18.2 percent) fell asleep within a minute after their mothers sat with them on hands.

After the baby fell asleep in her arms, mothers often put him to bed, causing some children to wake up: 9Of the 22 sleeping infants, they woke up 20 seconds after lying down and had a decrease in the mIBI index. Scientists associated this with a change in head position and activation of the cardiovascular system. 9 other babies who fell asleep were held in their arms by their mothers while sitting. The children slept like this for 5-8 minutes and only after that they were put to bed. It turned out that after such a sequence of actions, the baby did not wake up. A window of 5-8 minutes corresponds to the duration of the initial phase of sleep, which is characterized by a low threshold of arousal, so the scientists concluded that sitting with a sleeping baby is the most effective way to wait out the initial phase of sleep.

If a child was crying, and they only sat with him or simply put him to bed, he did not calm down, but on the contrary, he began to cry even more. The scientists concluded that despite contact with the mother, infants who have not been walked with do not activate the transport reaction, so it is more difficult for them to calm down.

Ways to soothe children are similar among parents around the world: we have said that people from different cultures communicate acoustically with babies and sing lullabies to them.
