Why Consider
Support Groups?Trauma can be very isolating.
Often, survivors feel that no one understands their unique struggles. They feel shame and fear that if others knew what they’ve been through and who they really are, they would abandon them.
Support groups offer survivors an opportunity to gather and share your story with others who have had similar trauma experiences. It’s a chance to feel seen, heard, and understood, and to get support from others who can relate to what you’re experiencing.
Why Join a
Support Group?A support group is a great option for those just starting their healing journey.
It provides an opportunity to share your trauma experiences in a safe, supportive, judgement-free environment without the pressure to speak until you’re ready. It is an opportunity to be a “fly on the wall” to watch and learn how others approach the healing process.
In a support group, you can:
Overcome social and emotional isolation that is often experienced after trauma and abuse
Get FREE support, removing the financial barrier to healing.
Learn how trauma and abuse has affected your life
Gain a foundation to begin overcoming your past and embracing your future.
If this is YOU, a support group may be a great option.
You are just starting your journey to healing from trauma and abuse.
You feel nervous and uncertain about where to begin.
You are isolated from healthy friendships.
You long for a supportive community who understand what you have been through.

Frequently Asked
Questions-
Most survivors have multiple experiences with trauma and abuse. Once it’s started, an individual is more likely to experience a repeat of the cycle with other abusers. When choosing an &Rise support group, start with your first experience. Did you experience childhood sexual or physical abuse? Or did the abuse start in adulthood?
How our brain processes trauma varies depending on our maturity at the onset of abuse, and the type of abuse we experienced. Our virtual and in-person trauma groups speak specifically to trauma experienced by children, adults who experienced violent sexual assault, and survivors of sex trafficking. Our virtual domestic abuse groups speak more specifically to adults who are currently in or are recovering from domestic abuse.

Select from one of the three options on this page, and complete the online registration form. All &Rise support groups are free of charge, but we need enrollment information to ensure that you receive an invitation for virtual groups, and updates on location and scheduling changes for in-person groups.
-
Yes. However, we suggest you give a group at try for at least a month before changing. Talking about trauma requires trust, and trust takes time to build. If you have a negative experience or it just isn’t clicking for you, let us know at [email protected].
-
&Rise support groups are peer-led, meaning that they are not facilitated by a mental health professional. However, our peer-facilitators are survivors who undergo extensive training to support in their role. The goal of the group is to create a sense of safety and community between survivors. Peer-led groups have shown to be very successful in empowering survivors to heal and thrive.
-
&Rise peer-facilitators understand how difficult it can be to find quality information and resources beginning a journey to healing from trauma and abuse. As peers, they are uniquely qualified to support you as you learn to cope, adjust, understand, and advocate for yourself and your loved ones.
-
Contact us! We can help you figure out the best fit. You will have an opportunity to speak with a trained &Rise staff or volunteer to point you in the right direction.
-
At the start of each group, our facilitators will go over the Agenda and Group Rules. Our facilitators may offer structure to the conversation depending on the nature of the group. However, for the most part, this support group offers an open and supportive place for sharing and discussion.
-
No one in our virtual support groups can see you unless you choose to turn on your webcam. We understand that people have different comfort levels and we respect participant's anonymity.
-
Cost should not be a barrier to receiving support and information to help you escape and recover from trauma and abuse. &Rise is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As such, support groups, counseling, and other services are supported by donor donations, sponsors and fundraising efforts.
-
If you are interested and able, we would be grateful for your contributions – donations can be made when securing your spot ticket on Eventbrite. You could also support our organization by becoming a volunteer, donating money or free services, or sharing our social media posts.

Help - RFO "ONA"
This page contains a selection of various services, organizations, hotlines, information resources to help women and children in difficult situations. Here you can find out where to get psychological, legal or other help and support if you experience violence or discrimination.
We call on all those interested to help in checking this database and keeping it up to date! It is very important to know whether this or that service is functioning at all at the moment, what kind of assistance it is ready to provide, whether adequate specialists work there, whether they communicate correctly with those who apply, whether they themselves practice certain forms of discrimination. If you or your acquaintances have called one of the hotlines, asked for help from any organization and are ready to write a review based on real experience, then it will be very great. If you want to add your project or organization to the database, we will do it with pleasure. Please send any important information to our mail ( [email protected] ).

Feedback from Sofiko: “When I called, I told them that I allegedly confessed to my father that I was a lesbian, and now he wants to kick me out of the house. During the conversation, they began to stubbornly lead me to the idea that I was deceiving myself by calling myself a lesbian, and that this is so - toys.

Review: “I was in the Moscow Crisis Center a month ago, it was a nightmare for me. Crowds are walking, judging by the crumpled, sleepy look, of men living there in swimming trunks, probably from the sports sections. One, in front of the manager, yelled at my two-year-old child. In this center, everything is done for the work of paid circles - women and children in trouble are not welcome there. They rude me so that I sobbed on the street for 10 minutes.
…When my situation is resolved, I will probably write more. As I understand it, completely unprincipled aunts work there on a salary. This is from a series of educators in orphanages or a favorite topic - doctors in maternity hospitals. These same people should help children and love their work, right? But in reality, there is just a paid children's center for those who live nearby, and in the building where rooms are equipped for women in trouble (and there is a really wonderful building, opened less than a year ago), guest workers live for money. Such beautiful words about support are written on their website - this is very hypocritical.
I thought about writing in colors for a long time, but I’m almost sure that they will remember me and, for the sake of entertainment, write to the guardianship, for example, it’s time to spit: if I applied to the crisis center, then there is a reason to check.

Rostov-on-Don. City helpline: 8 (863) 267-93-04.
Feedback from Lyubov: “First, I called the city helpline. It works, if not around the clock, then late and on weekends too. I called around midnight on weekends and they answered right away. The experience of communication is twofold - I called twice and got to different psychologists. I am a little in the subject of domestic violence and feminism, and therefore some phrases and messages in communication with the operator cut the ear.
My first call lasted about an hour, they let me talk. In general, the conversation was supportive, but there were also moments like “try to be gentle at the moment of aggression” (my husband raised his hand to me and not for the first time), “here is the phone number of the center for combating domestic violence - there, of course, they will advise you divorce” (i. e., it is assumed that they will be advised incorrectly), “try to make situations of aggression “like a sword on water” for you” (i.e., be soft and forget it). They said that cheating is normal for men (yes, of course, he cheated on me).The worst thing is that the psychologist advised me to look at some site about Vedic women and femininity. The main positive result is that they gave me the number of the social protection center, where they can provide support.
The second time I met another specialist who fully supported my actions (self-defense, calling the police when he tried to break the door, the decision to leave her husband, etc.) without any heresy about the Vedas. Again, they gave a support phone number.

Here I talked to a psychologist: separate office; the air conditioner is working; they were polite with me and assured that they would help; reassured me about my fears that my husband would take away the children. They said that they could give several sessions of supportive psychotherapy for free. They also said that they accept without documents and Rostov registration.

Helpline: Hilfetelefon
365 days a year, around the clock and free of charge: Calling the Helpline for Women Survivors of Violence, first of all, gives victims the opportunity to receive anonymous advice - around the clock, without barriers, on a professional level and without exposing themselves danger. Our employees provide confidential support to women in need of assistance and, if necessary, refer them to counseling centers in their area. This new initiative is a response to emerging societal needs and serves as a guide for victims, their families, girlfriends and friends, as well as professionals.
An urgent need
The results of representative sociological surveys commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) show that women in Germany are very often victims of gender-based violence; every second woman with a disability has already been subjected to sexual violence. Despite the fact that cities and administrative centers already offer a wide network of services aimed at supporting victims of violence, the system of assistance has so far lacked a central 24-hour telephone “hotline”, without barriers, offering anonymous and free information and contact details to all those in need. organizations in the community. This gap has now been filled by the Helpline for Women Survivors of Violence.
Qualified and reliable advice – in multiple languages and without barriers
Professionally trained counselors are available to those who call the helpline. Consultations are anonymous, confidential and subject to legal provisions for the protection of confidential information. Thanks to a specially designed program, it is also safe to visit the helpline page on the Internet. Constant availability, high security requirements, multilingual consultations, as well as the absence of barriers in the organization of work help women victims of violence take the first step and contact the helpline. This is especially the case for those segments of the population who have hitherto rarely taken advantage of the available offers of assistance. In this way, the counseling center hopes to reach out to migrant women, women with disabilities, older women or victims of human trafficking.
Targeted search for help and more effective support
One of the most important tasks of the helpline is to improve the situation of women victims of violence by targeting an organization that could provide them with further assistance. Thanks to the hotline, it is easier for women to contact the right authority and receive appropriate support there. For many, this is the first step towards a more independent life.
Contact persons for victims, their relatives and professionals
The hotline addresses several target groups. In the first place are women who have been directly subjected to violence in the present or in the past. But also people from their social environment – family members, girlfriends and friends – can turn to us for advice. In addition, the helpline also works for those who are faced with the topic of violence against women in the course of their professional activities or social work.
