To insert the stock price in Excel, first convert the text to the data type Stocks (Stocks). You can then extract the desired information from this type of data, such as stock prices or changes in stock prices, into another column.

Note: The Stocks data type is only available for Microsoft 365 or with a free Microsoft account. English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese editing language must also be added to the Office Language Preferences.

  1. Enter text in the cells. For example, in each cell, enter a ticker, company name, or fund name.

  2. Then select the cells.

  3. Although not required, we recommend that you create an Excel spreadsheet. This will make it easier to get information from the Internet. To create a table, select Insert > Table .

  4. When selecting cells, go to Data tab and click Shares.

  5. If Excel finds a match between text in cells and web sources, the text will be converted to the Stocks data type. You'll know they've been converted if they have a share icon: .

  6. Select one or more cells with data type, and add column will appear. Click this button and then click the field name to retrieve more information. For example, for stocks, you can choose Price .

  7. Click the Add Column button again to add additional fields. If you are using a table, enter the field name in the header line. For example, , enter Change in the stock column row and the change will appear in the price column. Or enter other field names like Last Trade Time, Previous Close and Exchange .
