Overview

The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, has been a center of information innovation since its founding in 1836. The world’s largest biomedical library, NLM maintains and makes available a vast print collection and produces electronic information resources on a wide range of topics that are searched billions of times each year by millions of people around the globe. It also supports and conducts research, development, and training in biomedical informatics and health information technology. In addition, the Library coordinates an 8,000+ member Network of the National Library of Medicine that promotes and provides access to health information in communities across the United States.

In memory of Elvira Petrovna Kasatkina (March 27, 1930 - April 18, 2022)

On April 18, 2022, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honorary Head of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Elvira Petrovna Kasatkina died at the age of 93.

On April 18, 2022, Professor Elvira Petrovna Kasatkina, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Honorary Head of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology of the RMANPE, Doctor of Medical Sciences, died at the age of 93.

Elvira Petrovna was born in the city of Astrakhan, after graduating from the medical institute in 1955 she worked as a pediatrician, and then continued her studies in clinical residency at the Research Institute of Experimental Endocrinology and Chemistry of Hormones of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.

Elvira Petrovna went from a pediatrician to the head of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, with which all her professional activities are connected, starting from 1962 years old.

In 1966, Elvira Petrovna successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on "Congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex in children: clinical and pathogenetic characteristics, diagnosis, treatment", and in 1977 - her doctoral thesis on "Differential diagnosis and therapy of hermaphroditism".

Talented teacher, scientist and organizer, Kasatkina E.P. she gave all her knowledge, abilities and energy to an important cause - the training of pediatric endocrinologists.

For many years, Elvira Petrovna was the chief freelance pediatric endocrinologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia, it was on her initiative that in 19In 1997, a separate specialty "pediatric endocrinology" was included in the nomenclature of medical specialties.

Kasatkina E.P. - the author of over 400 scientific papers, normative and teaching aids, 5 patents for inventions, 7 monographs, including the country's first monograph "Diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents", which has been repeatedly reprinted and is still a reference book for doctors as well as patients. Elvira Petrovna prepared 29 candidates of sciences and 10 doctors of sciences. nine0003

Her students work in all corners of our country and abroad, many of them are the main freelance children's endocrinologists in the regions.

Elvira Petrovna did a lot of social work, she was a member of the editorial board of the journals "Diabetes Mellitus", "Problems of Endocrinology", "Obesity and Metabolism", a member of the Dissertation Council of the Endocrinological Research Center and FGBOU DPO RMANPO in the specialty "Endocrinology".

Merits of Kasatkina E.P. awarded with honorary diplomas of VDNKh, commendation from the Ministry of Health, badge "Excellent Worker in Health", Moscow City Prize in 2007 in the field of medicine, diplomas of the Ministry of Health of Russia. nine0003

Children's endocrinology has suffered an irreparable loss, a great doctor, a talented teacher, a wise mentor, a Teacher with a capital letter, has passed away. The memory of Kasatkina Elvira Petrovna will forever remain in our hearts.
