Frankie Murdoch: Multiple personality, huh? But, who are they?
Oz: Well, they're you. Your aspects of you. Your subconscious.
Frankie Murdoch: Okay, but why?
Oz: That's what we'll have to find out.
Frankie Murdoch: So, what you're saying is, I got all these different... people living inside of me, right? But, I don't know who they are.
Oz: Well, we all have different personalities and different selves. "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes." It's Whitman.

The Three Faces of Francine
Geoffrey Sax's 'Frankie and Alice' initially an to an extent follows a similar narrative structure to Nunnally Johnson's 'The Three Faces of Eve'. While the theme of dissociative identity disorder has played a key part in many movies like 'Sybil' (to name a few), I've always found it a fascinating theme. 'Frankie and Alice' isn't that different from the aforementioned films. I liked how Sax presents the 70s setting and how he captures the culture of that time period without going over the top. I also liked that this film does not merely focus on the patient but also on the therapist who's working hard to get to the root of Frankie's disorder. The best scenes are the interactions between her and Dr. Oz. Halle Berry makes a memorable comeback to films after a three year break. She is spellbinding in all three avatars and that too without having to rely on mimicry and makeup. Stellan Skarsgård is equally good in a subtle role. While 'Frankie and Alice' doesn't present anything new regarding dissociative identity disorder, it's still an interesting character study (albeit a slightly dramatized one) and makes for a good watch.

Frankie & Alice-

Turn back, look forward Good decent movie. The acting was really good actually but the story wasn't that interesting although it had a good ending in which it explained a lil the complicated story. The movie is based on true events. Halle Berry plays the role of young woman named Francine L. Murdoch (Frankie) with multiple personality disorder. The movie starts in Savannah, Georgia 1957, where a girl is shown in a car accident. The movie is forwarded to present Los Angeles, California 1978, where Frankie works in strip club. One night after an altercation Frankie lands up in Pearce psychiatric hospital where she is introduced to Dr. Joseph Oswald (Dr. Oz). Later Dr. Oz starts treating Frankie for multiple personality disorder and diagnoses her as having three personalities. 1) Francine L. Murdoch, Black Female Age 32, IQ 132 Right handed. 2) Alice, White female Age ?, IQ 102 Left handed. 3) Genius, Black Female Age 8-12, IQ 156 Right handed. The story then revolves with Dr. Oz and Frankie where he treats her for the multiple personality disorder. In due course of time he is able to discover the other two sub conscious personality and make Frankie realize her problem. And the movie ends with credit as below: Dr Oz treated Frankie until she was able to control her condition. He died in 2001. Frankie (with help from Genius) became a High School Teacher. She married a psychiatrist.

With I'm sure the best of intentions (and not a little hope for Oscar's roving eye), Halle Berry stars in (and produces) this big-screen Lifetime movie about a woman afflicted with a fractured personality who meets a kindly doctor who helps her Break Through To Find Herself. If any part of that sentece appeals to you, this flick might be for you. Berry is deeply sincere and throws herself into the proceedings full tilt, and there is pleasure to be derived from that I guess, but if you don't sense trouble in the opening credits when six (SIX) writers are credited on this one psychological drama, then maybe this one's for you. For me? Not so much.

Well i had heard little and nothing about this flick and only finding out about it after i saw that Halle Berry was nominated for a golden globe and reading the review and sypnosis to this hidden away little flick and found out it was a true life case of a woman with split personalitie disorder. Halle plays a stripper named Frankie whose little mood swings have all but frightened the crap out of her coworkers and boss. It turns out these mood swings are alot more serious and turn out to be s.p.d. Frankie has two others sharing her tired little body, one a frightened but smartas a whip 9yr old girl who her psychiatrist Dr. Oz (Stellan Skarsgard) names genius and an racist white woman named Alice. As the movie rolls along we find out that their is alot of history that inspired Frankie to take on these alter personas and can be triggered by something as simple as a song on the radio. An overall good film that lot of reviwers and critics have been calling a Sybil rip off ( I dont call it that but the mental illness is the same thats for sure) Berry's nomination for the golden globe failed and wasnt won as it went to Natalie Portman's performance in Black Swan (another acting job that was well deserved of the win) however she once again pulled off a solid job along with a stellar performance in this film.

The action takes place in Los Angeles in 1973. Frankie is a beautiful black go-go dancer. The film opens with Frankie performing at a local strip club. The black beauty is one of the best dancers in the establishment where businessmen from Wall Street converge.
Frankie soon becomes interested in a famous bartender. She agrees to go to his house for casual, non-committal sex. As a result of the night's adventure, Franky passes out, and then comes to his senses and finds his partner with a crack in his head, and nearby - a broken vase. Frankie crushed his head. But why? She cannot understand this.
Soon news of her violent behavior is spreading throughout the strip club. Frankie is fired. She is looking for a job. But she has a series of similar manic episodes that prevent her from living.
The girl goes to a psychiatrist. During the session, Frankie learns that she has two alter egos: Genius, a seven-year-old child, and Alice, a white racist woman, whom Frankie is trying to overcome in herself. Frankie starts seeing a psychiatrist regularly. Thanks to this, she remembers those events from the past that led to her split personality.
During another session, she recalls how in her youth she loved a white man who died in a car accident while they were both in the car. At the same time, she sees that she was pregnant. She has a white baby, and minutes after he is born, her own mother takes him away to kill (due to racial prejudice). These events provoked Frankie's split personality.
A girl watches her sessions with a psychiatrist on videotape. For the heroine, everything falls into place, the wounds begin to heal. Franky says he can control himself now.
