, President Xi Jinping will be elected to a record third term, approaching Mao Zedong in importance and influence.

On the eve of this grand event, the authorities are struggling to contain local outbreaks of covid, but the virus does not obey party decrees.

Covid Zero

Other countries have bet on vaccination and learning to live with the virus, China has gone through the suppression of each outbreak, lockdowns and severe restrictions.

The country has a zero tolerance policy for covid, when even due to isolated cases, the authorities send entire cities into lockdown. Here it is called "zero covid".

In recent weeks, tens of millions of people in 60 Chinese cities have again been locked in their homes. And on Monday, 949 new cases of coronavirus infection were registered in the country.

Strict travel restrictions, mass testing, QR passes everywhere. All this reduced the burden on hospitals.

However, the economy and residents pay for it. Official youth unemployment is now 18.7%, this year it reached 20%.

What about vaccinations?

The Chinese leadership, which is so zealously monitoring the strict observance of restrictive measures, is not very enthusiastic about vaccination.

There are almost no public information campaigns, no one calls for vaccinations. Moreover, only topical vaccines are allowed, although studies show they are not as effective as well-known internationally recognized drugs.

"We will not eradicate the virus anytime soon. We are waiting for more effective drugs and more effective vaccines," says Liang Wangnian, head of the government's Covid-19 expert groupand architect of the current zero tolerance policy.

He admits that domestic vaccines in China are not as effective in fighting infection as they are supposed to be, but at least they prevent serious illness and death.

The main problem with vaccination, according to Chinese experts, is lack of confidence in vaccines. Even some Chinese doctors advise their patients not to get vaccinated.

"Many older people have comorbidities. They think that vaccination is not safe. But it's actually safe. We need to get the message across," says Professor Liang.

However, the government does not consider awareness campaign a priority.

Life in lockdown

Rail traffic from Xinjiang was recently suspended, with many parts of the region, including its capital Urumqi, blocked from entering as officials admitted they had failed to stop the spread of the virus.

Residents of the blocked areas complain about the lack of food and basic necessities.

"It's been 15 days, we've run out of flour, rice, eggs. A few days ago, we ran out of milk for our children," says a western Xinjiang resident.

In the southwestern mountainous province of Guizhou, authorities announced a lockdown in its capital, Guiyang City, without warning, without giving residents time to prepare.

Elevators have been disabled in the buildings to prevent people from going outside, according to the Guardian newspaper.

"You can't buy goods online because there's no delivery. And supermarkets are closed. The government treats us like animals. Or does it just want us to die out?" - asks one of the users of the social network Weibo.

The largest quarantined city is Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, where 21 million people are banned from leaving the city. To buy basic necessities in the store, you need a certificate of a negative test for covid.

On September 5, when a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the area, killing 70 people, Chengdu's residents had a difficult choice between quarantine or fleeing. But the security forces made the choice for many of them, blocking the exits from high-rise buildings.

The policy of the authorities leads to a lot of various restrictions, making life difficult for the population.

Update your software to the latest version.

Apple software updates often include advanced energy-saving technologies. So it's important to make sure you have the latest version of iOS, macOS, and watchOS.

Avoid extreme temperatures.

Your device is designed to operate over a wide temperature range. And yet, the ideal operating temperature is between 16 and 22 °C. It is especially risky to use the device at temperatures above 35 °C. This can lead to a decrease in the capacity of its battery and, as a result, to a reduction in the operating time of your device. Even more damaging to the battery can be charging at high temperatures. Therefore, the software is able to reduce the maximum charge level by up to 80% if the battery temperature exceeds the recommended values. In addition, even storing the battery in a hot room can have irreversible consequences. And if you use the device in very low temperatures, its operation time may also decrease, but only temporarily. As temperatures return to normal, battery performance will recover.

Charge your devices without cases.

Some types of cases can cause the battery to overheat, which will affect its capacity. If you notice that your device gets warm while charging, the first step is to remove it from the case. In the case of Apple Watch Edition models, you need to make sure that the cover of the magnetic charging case is open.

Leave the device half charged for long periods of storage.

When the battery is stored for a long time, its performance is significantly affected by two factors: the ambient temperature and the percentage of charge at the time the device was turned off. Therefore, we recommend that you adhere to the following rules.

Do not fully charge or discharge the battery on your device - it is optimal to charge it about half way. If the device is left completely discharged, the battery may go into a deep discharge state and lose its ability to hold a charge. If you store the device fully charged, this can lead to a decrease in battery capacity and, as a result, to a reduction in its service life.
Turn off your device to save extra battery power.
Place the device in a cool place where there is no moisture and the temperature does not exceed 32°C.
If you do not plan to use the device for more than six months, recharge it up to 50% every six months.

The battery may be low after a long period of storage. To get started with a device that you have not used for a long time, you may need to charge it for 20 minutes using the supplied adapter.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users

Update the software to the latest version.

Always make sure your device is running the latest version of iOS.

If you are using iOS 5 or later, check if you have the update installed. To do this, open Settings> General> Software update.
If an update is available, you can connect your device to a power source and update it wirelessly, or connect it to a computer and update with the latest version of iTunes.

Optimize your settings.

There are two easy ways to save battery life no matter how you use your device: adjust screen brightness and use Wi-Fi.

Decrease the screen brightness or turn on auto-brightness to save battery life.

To decrease the brightness, open the Control Center and slide the brightness level down.
Automatic brightness adjustment adapts the screen brightness to the ambient light. To activate it, open Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Adaptation and turn on the "Auto Brightness" option there.

When using the Internet, remember that a Wi‑Fi connection consumes less battery power than a cellular connection. Therefore, we recommend that you never turn off Wi-Fi. To enable Wi‑Fi, open Settings > Wi‑Fi, and then select the appropriate network.

Enable power save mode.

Power Saving Mode was first introduced in iOS 9. It's an easy way to extend your iPhone's battery life when the battery gets low. Your iPhone will notify you when the battery level drops to 20% and then to 10%, and prompts you to switch to power-saving mode with a single tap. You can also turn it on in Settings > Battery. Power saving mode reduces display brightness, optimizes device performance, and minimizes system animations. Apps, including Mail, stop downloading content in the background, and AirDrop, iCloud Sync, and Continuity are disabled. You can still use the basic functions: make and receive calls, read and send mail and messages, surf the Internet, and much more. When your phone is charged again, the power saving mode will turn off automatically.

View battery usage information.

iOS makes it easy to track your battery usage by showing you what percentage of battery each app is using (when the device is not charging). This data is displayed in Settings > Battery.

Below are the messages that may be displayed under the applications in use.

Background activity. This means that an application running in the background consumes battery power while you are working in another application.

To save battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to update in the background. Go to Settings > General > Content Refresh and select the appropriate value: Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi and Cellular Data, or Off to completely disable background content refresh.
If the message "Background activity" is displayed in the Mail application, you can switch to manual control of receiving data or increase the interval for receiving data for automatic mode. Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Data Upload.

Location and background location. This means that the application is using location services.

You can optimize battery life by turning off location services in apps. To do this, open Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
The Location Services section shows all apps and the permissions they have. If the app has recently used Location Services, next to the On/Off switch indicator is displayed.

Home screen and lock screen. This means that your device was showing the home screen or lock screen. For example, the screen wakes up when a notification is received or the home button is pressed.

If an app's notifications frequently turn on the screen, you can turn off automatic notifications for that app. Open Settings > Notifications. Tap the desired app and turn off "Allow Notifications".

No cellular coverage. Weak signal. These messages appear in two cases. When you are in an area with poor cellular coverage and your iOS device is looking for a stronger signal. And also if you used your device in conditions that weakened the signal, which affected the battery charge.

You can extend battery life by turning on Airplane Mode. To do this, open the Control Center and tap the Airplane Mode icon. Please note that you cannot make or receive calls in Airplane Mode.

To charge the device, connect the computer to an electrical outlet and turn it on.

When you charge your iOS device via USB using your computer, you need to make sure that it is plugged in and turned on. If your computer is turned off or in sleep or standby mode, your device's battery will continue to drain. Please note that iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS cannot be charged using the FireWire Power Adapter and FireWire Car Charger.

Apple Watch users

Update your software to the latest version.

Check regularly to make sure your Apple Watch has the latest version of watchOS.

To see if you need to update your system, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select My Watch > General > Software Update.
If an update is available, connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network, connect the charger to your Apple Watch (must be at least 50% charged), and start the update over the air.

There are several ways to conserve battery life on your Apple Watch.

During a walking or running workout, you can put your watch into Power Save Mode to turn off the heart rate sensor. To do this, open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to the "My Watch" tab, select the "Workout" item and turn on the Power Saver Mode. Please note that when the heart rate sensor is disabled, calories burned may not be accurate.
For long workouts, a Bluetooth-enabled heart rate chest strap can be used instead of the built-in heart rate sensor. Creating a pair between such a belt and your watch is very simple. Put the belt into pairing mode. Then, on your Apple Watch, open Settings, go to Bluetooth, and select the strap from the Health Devices list.
If you actively move your hands and the watch display turns on more often than necessary, you can disable the function of activating the display when lifting your wrist. To do this, in the Settings on the Apple Watch, select General, then the "Screen wake up" item and turn off the "When lifting the wrist" function. And when you need to turn on the display, it will be enough to touch it or click on the Digital Crown.
If you turn off Bluetooth on your iPhone, your Apple Watch battery will drain faster. For more energy-efficient device interaction, we recommend leaving the Bluetooth function on on the iPhone.

If you want to charge your Apple Watch from your computer via a USB cable, plug your computer into a power outlet and turn it on. If the computer is turned off, or is in sleep or standby mode, the Apple Watch battery will continue to drain.

Update the software to the latest version.

Always use the latest Apple software on your iPod. Dock your iPod or connect it to your computer and iTunes will notify you when updates are available.

Optimize settings.

Lock and pause. Turn on lock mode when you're not using your iPod. That way you won't be able to accidentally wake up your iPod and waste battery life. If you are not listening to your iPod, stop playback or turn off the device by pressing and holding the play button for two seconds.

Equalizer. Using the equalizer during playback increases the load on the iPod processor because these settings are not part of the song being played. Disable the equalizer if you are not using it. If you did add an equalizer to your tracks in iTunes, you'll need to set it to "No EQ" for songs to play without the equalizer, since the iPod can't change iTunes settings.

Light. Keeping the backlight on all the time significantly reduces battery life. Use the backlight only when necessary.

Plug in your computer and turn it on when you need to charge your iPod.

Please update the software to the latest version.

Always use the latest version of macOS on your MacBook. If the laptop is connected to the Internet, macOS automatically checks for software updates every week. However, only you decide when to install the update. To make sure you're using the latest software version, open the Apple menu and select Software Update.

Optimize settings.

Energy. The Power Saver settings panel allows you to adjust the power consumption level for your Macbook. Your MacBook itself recognizes when it is connected to the power supply and switches to the appropriate mode of operation. If the laptop is running on battery power, the screen brightness is reduced automatically and other components are used more sparingly. When maximum performance is enabled, the battery drains faster.

Brightness. To increase battery life, reduce the screen brightness to the lowest comfortable level. For example, if you're watching a video on an airplane with the lights off, you don't need full brightness.

WiFi. When the Wi-Fi function is on, more power is consumed even when you are not using a wireless network connection. You can disable this feature in the Wi-Fi status menu or network settings.

Applications and peripherals. Disconnect peripherals and end applications that you are not using. Remove the SD card if it is not currently in use.

Connect your MacBook to a power outlet and turn it on to charge other devices.

Make sure your MacBook is plugged in and working when you use it to charge other devices via USB, otherwise those devices will drain your MacBook battery faster. If your MacBook is turned off or in sleep or standby mode, the battery of the device connected to it will continue to drain.
