1. Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

Author: Susan Cain

Genres: Nonfiction, Self Help, Psychology, Personal Development

Book recommendation by: Dr. Stephanie Wick, LCMFT, LCAC

“Quiet is a must read for anyone who is or knows an introvert. Understanding introversion is the key to unlocking its power!”

2. The Alchemist

Author: Paulo Coelho

Genres: Fiction, Fantasy, Philosophy, Spirituality

Book recommendation by: Lana Fancher, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

“The book is about a shepherd boy who journeys to seek a treasure he dreamed about. On the way, he learns the true importance of who he is and how to improve himself and focus on what really matters in life. Those lessons involve how perception influences psychological wellbeing, the power of choice, how beliefs about ourselves can enhance or inhibit what we ultimately accomplish, fear keeping us stuck, and the openness and awareness to recognize opportunity. I have read The Alchemist several times throughout my life, and each read resulted in different, but always fruitful meaning.”

3. Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself

Author: Nedra Glover Tawwab

Genres: Nonfiction, Self Help, Psychology, Mental Health

Book recommendation by: Laura Lyddon, LSCSW, LCAC, CFLE

“I love this book because it helps us to understand a topic that has become a buzzword in pop culture that most of us don’t fully understand. Boundaries are like a fence for the dog. It is designed to keep our pet safe and give them freedom without restriction within that area. Another misconception is that they are intended for other people. In fact, the boundaries are for us. We cannot change others. However, we get to decide what we let within our fence and what we don’t so that we too, can have unrestricted freedom within a safe area.”

4. The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma

Author: Bessel van der Kolk

Genres: Nonfiction, Self Help, Psychology, Mental Health

Book recommendation by: Rebecca Donovan, MS, LMFT

“I usually recommend this book for my clients with trauma symptoms to help them understand how trauma is processed in the brain and body, as well as to develop a deeper understanding of how EMDR therapy works. The book is written by a psychiatrist, but he can provide information in an easily digestible way for both clinicians and clients.

Image via Penguin Publishing Group

5. East of Eden

Author: John Steinbeck

Genres: Fiction, Allegorical Novel, Family Drama, Classics

Book recommendation by: John Merritt, LCMFT

“Although there are a variety of self help/therapy connected ones I can think of, I’m just gonna throw out an overall great novel, which jibes reasonably well with my beliefs about growth/possibility/and the human condition. I have recommended it, with decent results, to some of my past clients who felt stuck in life or like they did not have options.”

Image via Random House Publishing Group

6. Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle

Authors: Amelia and Emily Nagoski

Genres: Nonfiction, Self Help, Psychology, Feminism

Book recommendation by: Kathryn Thompson, MSFT, LCMFT

“My pick is a practical and empathetic guide to understanding why and how we store stress in our bodies, and how to release it. It is easy to read, trauma-informed, and acknowledges not only the impact of individual trauma, but collective and societal barriers to healing as well. It’s a book that actually helps us know what to do instead of just identifying the problem. I’m recommending it to anyone who will read it.”

7. Finding Quiet: My Story of Overcoming Anxiety and the Practices That Brought Peace

Author: J.P. Moreland

Genres: Nonfiction, Christian, Self Help, Psychology

Book recommendation by: Cory Richards, MS, LCMFT

From the author

to you;

Seek and you shall find;

Knock, and it will be opened to you.

Sometimes life is compared to chess. There are a certain number of pieces on the chessboard, and although the possibilities for rearranging them are limited, they create countless combinations. Life is incommensurably more complicated, but the choice of life options for most people is limited. They feel these limitations intuitively. At the same time, although they call them differently - "fate", "karma", "fatum" - but the essence of this does not change. Undoubtedly, there is a way out - fate, or karma, can be changed. The same can be said about diseases of the joints, especially when it comes to severe and intractable cases. And although a person is able to do it on his own, it is usually difficult to cope alone.

And in these cases, of course, the help of a chiropractor or chiropractor is indispensable.

For a long time I deliberately did not touch on the methods of work of a chiropractor, especially with the spine. The main reason is the increased danger of inept application of my techniques. At the same time, the editorial office that publishes my work often received letters from people who, for one reason or another, did not have the opportunity to turn to a qualified specialist for help. And the eternal question arose in front of me - what to do ? Do people really have to get sick and suffer without hope for some kind of clearance? Or still try to help them somehow? Of course, in the literature of various kinds, printed publications, as well as in advertising, one could find a lot of advice and recommendations. But to my regret, I saw that most of them are aimed only at temporarily relieving or reducing the level of the pain signal. Moreover, the key word here is precisely temporary , that is, not a cure, but anesthetization - and this is already a huge difference.

I also had many questions about the method of presenting the material. Where to start and where? Maybe anatomy? Or from biology and cytology? For most potential users, these questions are of little interest. In addition, there are a large number of tutorials on these topics. Or maybe it's better with diagnostics? Yes, this is more interesting. And perhaps it is best to give the material in a breakdown. And if there are errors in the method of detecting the disease? And it is not clear what can be done and what cannot be done, while what and how to do is also not clear ...

There are a number of diseases that are considered incurable. Having healed from scoliosis or another "incurable" disease, a person will certainly change his fate. And here the miracle and magic begins...

Miracle is when the impossible is accomplished. At different times, there were different criteria for it. But curing scoliosis remains a miracle to this day. True, this miracle has a small minus - it does not happen instantly. But there is a big plus - a lot of people are healed. This miracle happens to me regularly, day after day.

I never made a secret from my work. Everyone could watch me. Pressing, tapping, patting. Then - homework. Nothing special. Any massage therapist or chiropractor will do just as well… It would seem that there is no secret. Only scoliosis does not go away from simple copying of techniques ...

But, of course, there is a secret. Some call it "magic", others - "bioenergy", others - "prana". In the Book of Life it is called "The Word" (in Greek "Logos"). The Book of Life has come down to us from time immemorial and has been translated into many languages. "Logos" can also mean "Idea", "Thought", "Consciousness". .. The same Consciousness, which materialists consider to be just a function of matter. Human consciousness and Divine Consciousness are related. According to the Book, man is created in the image and likeness of God. But God is immaterial… Then Consciousness remains, which is also immaterial, but inherent in both the Supreme Being and man. The connection between the material world and Consciousness, of course, exists. True, it is not very strong, so many people are far from Consciousness. Nevertheless, touching the Consciousness gives a person unusual, in the materialistic sense, opportunities to work miracles, including dispersing clouds, curing incurable diseases, and also seeing the past and the future.

At appointments, when people come to me wishing only one thing - to get well, I create a special favorable atmosphere that helps the healing process. In such an atmosphere, miracles are more easily obtained and the incurable is cured.

And for healing, a person does not even have to be near me. After all, consciousness has no boundaries. However, at the same time, both the sick person and the one who treats him are important temporary ́ i synchronization . Therefore, I appeal to chiropractors and their patients, as well as to all people of good will who wish health for themselves and their loved ones - WISH HEALTH TO OTHERS AND YOU WILL BE HEALTHY! CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF BENEFICIENCY, TRUST AND TOUCH YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS!

Tips for chiropractors

Never let yourself be controlled!

Occasionally you may meet patients who, based on their experience of treatment with other doctors, will try to guide you and tell you what to do and how to do it. Nothing good comes from this. Always work your way, do as your intuition and hands tell you, as you see fit. Get rid of dissenters immediately.

Because in any case, it is you who are responsible for everything. And no matter how the patient insists on a special approach, on his exclusivity, on his experience and knowledge, he is not responsible for anything. If the ship crashed, only the captain is to blame; and you crippled the patient - you will be to blame. No matter what the patient tells you before, no matter how he persuades you, it is better to refuse such a “understanding” patient than to injure him and get yourself a lot of trouble for it.

Example. Some time ago a charming woman of about 40 years old with huge blue eyes came to see me. She had a blond braid to the waist, there was a lot of everything and everywhere, in general, in the style of a Russian beauty. These are usually bread and salt served to VIP guests. At the same time, the woman felt extraordinary intelligence and willpower. By profession, she was a surgeon and a candidate of medical sciences. In general, I was fascinated by this woman to the fullest.

She complained of cervical osteochondrosis with all the attendant troubles. She said that she had been to several chiropractors, but no one could help her. Then I started treatment and did 4 or 5 sessions. Everything went very well, the lady's headaches and dizziness stopped, she was pleased and praised me, and I just swam ...

But suddenly one day she brings me a fresh picture and says - here the spinous process is not so deployed, and here the vertebra is not so standing. And she persuaded me to treat her according to HER method, that is, to do what SHE considered necessary, and in the way SHE considered right. That is, she crushed me with her authority and charm, and I yielded to her due to my stupidity and weakness of character. So I did what she wanted, and two hours later she comes back, because she suddenly began to feel dizzy again. I redo the procedure... And the next appointment, she brings me new pictures and I redo everything again. And so it was repeated many times. Whatever I do, it only gets worse for her ... As a result, I probably couldn’t part with her for half a year until she switched to the Filipinos. I still remember with a shudder...

I suspect that she also supervised other chiropractors… she’s so smart and beautiful…

That’s why I developed a universal formula for such patients – I work here I’m , I treat only those who fully trust and listen to me only me . At the same time, I do only what I consider necessary, and in the way I consider necessary. And my patients fulfill my , and only my recommendations. If something does not suit them, then let them look for another doctor

Do not demand faith in treatment

Do not demand absolute faith from patients in themselves as a doctor and in the positive results of their treatment.

I often have patients who say: “Doctor, we believe you, we believe so endlessly, help…”

Please note that only a bad doctor needs such faith. Faith is needed where the doctor himself cannot cope, where there is an incorrect diagnosis and inadequate treatment. I never demand faith from patients, but I demand strict compliance with the regulations ! If the surgeon is good, then the patient believes in him or not, but the patient's appendicitis will be removed and everything will heal well, unless, of course, the patient himself does something stupid.

I think faith is just a good "excuse" for a bad doctor: the patient believed in him badly, so nothing good came of it, that is, in this case the patient is to blame. In this way, the doctor shifts the blame for his unsuccessful treatment to the patient. But after all, small children and animals do not believe in anything, and yet they respond well enough to treatment, of course, if the doctor is normal. For example, I have never heard from a veterinarian: “Your cat had little faith in treatment, so nothing happened” ...

I believe that the patient should simply strictly follow the doctor's instructions, and that's it!

Somehow a very intelligent 67-year-old patient was brought to me, who had a disc herniation two months ago. The patient walked with difficulty and could only stand or lie down. At the same time, he tells me that he does not believe in manual therapy at all, but he is so afraid of the operation that he is ready for anything, if only not on the surgical table. I ask: "50 to 50%?" And he replies: “I think that 40 to 60%, while 40% is good, and 60% ... not very, and sometimes quite bad. I, as a pathologist, know the statistics, but I still want to live and have to work, but so far I can’t even sit at a microscope.

Manual of Schema Therapy: Theory, Research and Practice (2022)

Editors — Michiel van Vrieswijk, Jenny Broesen, Marjon Nadort

The book is a major work in the field schema therapy, prepared by the joint efforts of world leaders in this area. The guide includes seven major sections, consisting of several thematic chapters:

  • The first section describes the history of the development of schema therapy and the main theoretical concepts of the method.
  • The second part deals with issues related to the processes that occur at various stages of schema therapy, such as diagnosis and evaluation, building conceptualization, accurate and timely application of interventions.

After a short introduction to schema therapy, maladaptive coping modes are described, each of which has its own chapter. Then an example of a case with this mode is given. Further, the features of empathic confrontation with the corresponding regime are highlighted point by point, and, finally, the pitfalls that can be encountered when implementing the described steps are analyzed. Each chapter contains working materials for use in the process of empathic confrontation with different coping modes.
In addition, there is a chapter on empathic confrontation in group work, a new and exciting trend in recent years that could make schema therapy accessible to more people.

Specific examples from individual and group work are described; there are a number of typical scenarios for particularly difficult situations that we encounter in our therapeutic practice.
