A Prayer for Serenity

God,
Grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.

A Prayer for Courage
Woman's Day/Getty Images
Dear Lord,
Your word tells us that we are not slaves to fear. You have given us many promises that tell us to rest in you and your word. In Romans 8: 15-17 you tell us, The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.Thank you for this wonderful promise. I will remember these words during the difficult times that I am tempted to give in to fear, but instead will decide to completely trust in you. May you keep your words in my heart and mind, and help me to dwell on them throughout the day. Thank you, Lord.

Prayer for anxiety
O our good shepherd and God-wise mentor, St. Nicholas of Christ! Hear us sinners (names), praying to you and calling for your help, your speedy intercession; see us weak, caught from everywhere, deprived of every good and darkened by the mind from cowardice; rush, servant of God, do not leave us in the sinful captivity of being, let us not be our enemy in joy and die in our evil deeds. Pray for us, our unworthy Sovereign and Lord, You stand before Him with incorporeal faces: be merciful to us, create our God in this life and in the future, let him not reward us according to our deeds and according to the impurity of our hearts, but according to your goodness will reward us. We hope for your intercession, we boast of your intercession, we call on your intercession for help, and we fall down to your most holy image, we ask for help: deliver us, saint of Christ, from the evils that are upon us, and tame the waves of passions and troubles that rise against us, but for the sake of Your holy prayers will not attack us and we will not be mired in the abyss of sin and in the mud of our passions. Moth, to St. Nicholas of Christ, Christ our God, give us a peaceful life and the remission of sins, but salvation and great mercy to our souls, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

Strong prayers from fear, anxiety and fear of the soul
- Fear of people
- Unreasonable fears
- Fear of death
- Night fears
- Short prayers from nervousness, anxiety
Anxiety, nightly passions, obsessive thoughts every person has experienced it. Even in ancient times, people knew that the most effective remedy against mental anxiety and bad thoughts is prayer.
Being in mental confusion, it is difficult to find words. In this case, ready-made texts are used, compiled by hermits who lived in secluded places, where fears and anxiety act with particular force.
Their prayers are a sure way to get rid of phobias, anxious states, thoughts that confuse the soul.
Fear of people
Strong prayer from fear and anxiety - David's Psalms.
King David PsalmistKing David, who lived in pre-Christian times in the land of present-day Israel, endured persecution from his own son Absalom, who also wanted to reign. One day, hiding from the chase, David wrote the psalm "Lord, why do my enemies multiply?" While the king was praying, his enemies were defeated by the power of God, without the use of weapons.
David's Prayer can still be heard every day in an Orthodox church during the evening service.
St. Ambrose of Optina recommended this prayer reading in order to destroy the evil intentions of the enemies, but not to sin ourselves. In times of great embarrassment, you can read the entire psalm, or utter individual phrases that are suitable for the situation.Other psalms of David:
- Psalm 6
- Psalm 9
- Psalm 11
You can pray in both Slavonic and Russian.
Psalm 3
Lord, why do you multiply those who are cold? Many rise up against me, many say to my soul: there is no salvation for him in his God. You, O Lord, are my intercessor, my glory and lift up my head. I called with my voice to the Lord, and heard me from my holy mountain. I fell asleep, and spah, rose, as if the Lord would intercede for me. I will not be afraid of those people around who attack me. Resurrect, O Lord, save me, my God, for you have struck down all those who are at enmity with us in vain: you have crushed the teeth of sinners. Salvation is of the Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.
Unfounded fears
Dark thoughts come to every person from time to time. Nothing seems to have happened, but my heart is tormented by panic, forebodings of trouble. In these cases, they turn to the Mother of God.
Icon of the Mother of GodShe spent a long time anxiously waiting for the misfortune that was to happen to Her Son, Christ. Her help is strong in similar situations that happen to people.
In the 8th century there lived a Greek monk Theosterictus, who suffered from attacks of fear and anxiety. To get rid of them, Theosterikt compiled the Canon of the Theotokos for prayerful help, "read in spiritual sorrow and circumstances."
This is a strong prayer from obsessive thoughts that give rise to phobias, it is printed in any prayer book.By reading the canon every day, believers really get rid of fear, anxiety and anxiety.

Irmos: I will pour out a prayer to the Lord, and to Him I will proclaim my sorrows, for my soul is filled with evil, and my belly draw near to hell, and I pray like Jonah: from aphids, O God, raise me up.

Thy representative of the belly, and the Guardian is firm, Virgin, and I will solve rumors of adversity, and drive away the taxes of demons; and I always pray, deliver me from the aphid of my passions.
Glory: Like a wall of refuge with a tie, and all-perfect salvation of souls, and space in sorrow, O Lady, and in Your enlightenment we rejoice forever: O Lady, and now save us from passions and troubles.
And now: On my bed now I lie infirm, and there is no healing of my flesh; but having given birth to God and the Savior of the world, and the Deliverer of ailments, I pray to you the Good: from aphids, heal me from ailments.
Kontakion, Tone 6th
The shameless intercession of Christians, The intercession to the Creator is immutable, do not despise the voices of sinful prayers, but precede, as if Good, to the help of us, who are rightly calling to Thee: hasten to prayer, and plead for supplication, intercessory ever, the Theotokos, honoring Thee.
Song 7
Irmos: From Judea the youths came down, in Babylon sometimes, by faith of the Trinity fire trampled the cave, singing: Fathers, God, blessed be Thou.
Thou hast desired to arrange our salvation, O Savior, thou hast settled in the womb of the Virgin;
The Lord of Mercy, Thou hast given birth to Him, Mother Pure, beg to be delivered from sins and spiritual filth by faith calling: our father, God, bless Thou.
Glory: The treasure of salvation and the source of incorruption, She who gave birth, and the pillar of affirmation, and the door of repentance, Thou hast shown to those who call: our father, God, blessed be Thou.
And now: Bodily weaknesses and mental ailments, Mother of God, with love approaching Your shelter, Virgin, vouchsafe to heal, Who gave birth to Christ the Savior.
Song 8
Irmos: The King of Heaven, Whom the angels sing, praise and exalt for all eternity.
Help even from Thee, do not despise those who demand, O Virgin, who sing and exalt Thee forever.
You heal the infirmity of my soul, and bodily diseases, Virgin, let me glorify Thee, Pure, forever.
Glory: Pour out wealth of healing to those who faithfully sing Thee, Virgin, and glorify Your inexpressible Nativity.
And now: You drive away misfortunes, and find passions, Virgo: the same we sing to you forever and ever.
Song 9
Irmos: We truly confess Theotokos, saved by Thee, Pure Virgin, with incorporeal faces, Thou majestic.
Do not turn away the current of my tears, Even from every face every tear is taken away, Virgin, who gave birth to Christ.
Fill my heart with joys, Virgo, Even accepting fulfillment of joys, consuming sinful sorrow.
Be a refuge and intercession for those who run to Thee, O Virgin, and an indestructible wall, but a refuge and cover and joy.
Glory: Enlighten Your Light with the dawns, Virgin, driving away the darkness of ignorance, faithfully confessing the Theotokos to Thee.
And now: In the place of exasperation of weakness, humbled, Virgin, heal, transforming from ill health into health.
It happens that anxiety is so strong that there is no strength for long reading.
In these cases, the repeated repetition of the short prayer “Most Holy Theotokos, save me” or the singing of “My Queen Blessing” will help:
Singing “My Queen Blessing”
Blessing my Queen, My Hope, Mother of God, Friend of the orphans and the strange, Representative of the grieving Joy, offended Patron! See my trouble, see my sorrow; help me, as if I am weak, feed me, as if strange! Offended by my weight - resolve it, as if you will! As if there is no other imam of help, except for You, neither another Representative, nor a good Comforter, only You, O Bogomati! Yes, save me and cover me forever and ever. Amen.
Fear of death
Every person is afraid of death for several reasons:
- uncertainty of the event itself;
- fear of leaving children or loved ones without help;
- unwillingness to lose the pleasures of life.
All of them come from unbelief in the will of God. In such moments, prayer helps from fear and anxiety caused by the expectation of death.
PrayerMany saints experienced similar states.
The Monk Mary of Egypt was tormented by the fear of death, living for 17 years in complete solitude, in the desert, until the Mother of God Herself delivered her from spiritual embarrassment. Martyr Boniface, who loved various pleasures during his lifetime, no doubt went to his death when it came to confessing faith in Christ.
You can ask these saints for help with your own words or special petitions:
Troparion of St. Mary of Egypt , more passes, / lie down about the soul, things are immortal. / The same and from the Angels rejoices, reverend Mary, your spirit.
Troparion to the martyr Boniface
Thy martyr, O Lord, Boniface, in his suffering received an incorruptible crown from Thee, our God, having Thy fortress, put down the tormentors, crush and the demons of feeble insolence. Save our souls with prayers.
Night fears
When the day is drawing to a close and the environment becomes hard to distinguish, imaginary fears overcome an impressionable person. Children are especially susceptible to this: their imagination draws monsters under the bed or ghosts outside the window.
Other prayers for anxiety:
- Prayers for fear
- Prayers for depression and longing
- Prayer for evil spirits
the help of the Most High."
Prayer for helpThe first of them calls on God to drive away enemies - evil spirits, and the second tells about the serene life of one who always hopes for God's help.
Psalm 90
Alive in the help of the Most High, in the shelter of the Heavenly God he will settle. The Lord says: Thou art my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. As if He will deliver you from the snares of stalking, and from rebellious words, His splash will overshadow you, and under His wings you hope: His truth will be a weapon. Do not be afraid of the fear of the night, of the arrow flying into the days, of the transitory thing in the darkness, of the scum, and of the midday demon. A thousand will fall from your country, and darkness at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, but look at your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. As you, O Lord, are my hope, the Most High have laid down your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and the wound will not approach your body, as if by Your Angel a command about you, save you in all your ways. They will take you on their hands, but not when you stomp your foot on a stone, step on an asp and a basilisk, and cross a lion and a serpent. As if I trusted in Me, and I will deliver and: I will cover and, as I know My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will overcome him, and I will glorify him, I will fulfill him with long life, and I will show him My salvation.
Psalm 67
May God rise again, and let the enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His face.
