28 Tips for Positions, Orgasms, and Toys

Sure, exercise is a great way to relieve stress and improve your sleep. But so is enjoying a little one-on-one time with you and your body.

Masturbation is a safe and natural way to:

  • feel good
  • discover what gets you hot
  • release built-up sexual tension

In fact, solo play has infinite health benefits and absolutely no downsides — plus it’s fun!

Keep reading to learn more about:

  • masturbating with a vagina
  • how you can get started
  • what you can do to really turn up the heat

Here’s a list of the most common types of masturbation and the way they typically feel. Remember though: This will vary from person to person.

Orgasm typeType of masturbation
clitoralMost people use their fingers to play with their clitoris, but vibrators and other toys can also bring pleasure during solo play. When you orgasm, you’ll feel a tingly sensation along your skin and in your brain.
vaginalYou can use your fingers or a sex toy to penetrate your vagina during solo play. You’ll feel the “Big O” deeper in your body, and your vaginal walls will throb.
analYou can use your fingers or a sex toy for anal play (although a toy is better for deeper penetration). Right before you orgasm, you may feel an intense need to pee — only the contractions are around your anal sphincter.
comboThis one is all about personal preference. You can use both hands to play with your vagina and your clitoris or a combo of a sex toy and fingers. When you stimulate your clitoris and vagina — especially the G-spot — at the same time, you’ll feel an explosive orgasm that may leave you convulsing or even lead to ejaculation.
erogenous zonesYou can rub, pinch, pull, squeeze, or tug your nipples, inner thighs, ears, neck, and other parts of your body during solo play. These areas, known as erogenous zones, can cause pleasurable sensations throughout your body when played with.

Masturbation doesn’t have to lead to orgasm. But if you’re in the mood and want that endorphin rush, there are a few things you can do to help your body achieve the Big O:

Set the mood. The setting can sometimes make a big difference in whether or not you’ll have a good solo session. Think about turning down the lights, lighting some candles, and listening to relaxing music to get the mood going.

Add some lube. When you’re aroused, your body self-lubricates, making masturbation a much smoother and pleasurable experience. But sometimes, that may not be enough (or it may not happen at all!). So keep a tube of lube on hand to increase your pleasure. Shop for lube now.

Let your mind wander. It may go without saying, but you can turn yourself on by simply thinking about that hottie you met last week. Let your mind fantasize about people or situations that send tingles down your spine.

Take your time. You don’t have to rush masturbation. Play around with techniques and take your time to enjoy all of the sensations you’re feeling throughout your body.

Explore erogenous zones. Playing with your erogenous zones — think your nipples, ears, or thighs — can shoot sparks of pleasure throughout your body.

Give your usual sex toys a break. Vibrators and dildos are loads of fun to play with, but they’re not the only sex toys in town. Some people, for example, like to stimulate themselves by using a showerhead on their clitoris or rubbing their vulva against a pillow.

Consider erotica or pornography. It’s fun to let your mind wander, but you don’t always have to use your imagination. If you want to turn up the heat, read a dirty book or watch a sexy video.

The visible part of the clitoris is a pearl-sized organ, often covered by a hood, that’s found at the top of your vulva where the two inner lips meet.

The glans of the clitoris is about the size of a pearl/pea, but the structure itself is much more complex and extensive.

Your clitoris is packed with thousands of nerve endings, making it the most sensitive part of your genitals. That’s why most people with a vagina experience orgasm by stimulating their clitoris.

Clitoral orgasm

  • Massage the fleshy area on the top of your pubic bone, then run your fingers along the outer and inner lips of your vulva.
  • Start rubbing or stroking your clitoris through the hood. You can also form a “V” with your pointer and middle fingers and slide them up and down the sides of the clitoral shaft. Find a rhythm that makes you feel good.
  • Move your fingers faster and harder once your clitoris becomes wet or after you’ve applied lube. Intensify the feeling by applying heavy pressure until you orgasm.
  • Using a vibrator is a great way to stimulate your clitoris without having to overwork your fingers. Just run your sex toy up and down the area until you get off.

Despite common myths, most people with a vagina have a hard time climaxing with vaginal stimulation. That doesn’t mean it can’t be fun, though!

Penetrating your vagina with your fingers or a sex toy can bring you immense pleasure, even if you don’t orgasm.

But if you want to see stars, experiment with stimulating your G-spot — a pleasure point on your vaginal wall — with consistent, heavy pressure (doing so may also lead to ejaculation!).

Vaginal orgasm

  • First massage your vaginal opening, then slowly insert your fingers (or sex toy) into your vagina. Make sure your vagina is wet or that you’ve applied enough lube to avoid friction.
  • Start to move your fingers or toy in a circular, in-and-out, stroking, or combination of motions. It’s best to use a “come hither” motion to stimulate your G-spot.
  • Increase the speed and pressure as the good vibrations begin to build. You may feel an explosive orgasm, but don’t worry if you don’t. Not everyone can get off with vaginal penetration.

Who says anal orgasms are only for people with penises? You can still get off through anal play by indirectly stimulating the G-spot through the wall shared between the rectum and vagina.

But remember: You must, must, must use lube, as your anus doesn’t self-lubricate naturally.

Anal orgasm

  • Start massaging the outside and inside of your anal opening, then slowly and gently insert your finger or sex toy into your anus.
  • Switch between a circular and in-and-out motion as you penetrate your anus. Go faster as the pleasure begins to build until you’re ready to finish.
  • Experiment with toys! Vibrators, plugs, anal beads, and massagers can intensify your orgasm tenfold. Find anal sex toys here.

Many people report Earth-shattering orgasms when stimulating the vagina and clitoris at the same time.

Combo solo play intensifies feelings of pleasure by stimulating all the sensitive parts of your genitals. Touch and rub your erogenous zones while you’re at it for a steamy, full-body experience.

Combo orgasm

  • You can use both hands or a combo of fingers and sex toys for clitoral and vaginal stimulation during a solo session.
  • Go wild! Use parallel or opposite rhythms when playing with your clitoris and vagina at the same time. Even consider switching up speeds between the two (think fast fingers, slow penetration).
  • It’s all about experimentation! When it comes to stimulating your erogenous zones, play around with various touches (think rubbing, tugging, or pinching) and sex toys (think feathers or finger vibrators) to know what makes you feel good.

Masturbation doesn’t have to be boring! You can use different positions to kick your solo session up a notch on the pleasure scale.

Here are just a few to try out:

For clitoral, try lying on your back

Sure, lying on your back may seem old-fashioned, but when it comes to stimulating your clitoris, no position is better.

While on your back, with a pillow propped under your head, spread your legs and bend them at the knees. Start to rub your clitoris. You can go slow or fast, hard or soft — whatever feels good to you.

For vaginal, try squatting

If you’re looking for an explosive orgasm, the squatting position is the one to try. Squatting makes it easier for you to locate your G-spot, which is about 2 to 3 inches inside your vaginal canal.

Crouch down with your heels close to or touching the back of your thighs. Then, start to slide your fingers or toy into your vagina, moving deeper as you go.

Mix it up with a range of motions, from stroking and circular, to in and out.

For anal, try face-down doggy style

When it comes to anal play, face-down doggy style opens you up for so much pleasure.

The position gives you the room you need to insert your fingers or a toy in your behind with one hand while rubbing yourself with the other.

Get on all fours, then put your face down on your bed or floor so your backside is higher in the air.

Wrap one arm around your back to reach your anus while placing your other arm underneath your body, so you can touch your clitoris.

For the combo and erogenous zones, try the pretend lover

Think of the pretend lover as the cowgirl for one.

Put your favorite dildo or vibrator on your bed and lower yourself down until you find a sensation you like — either penetration, clitoral, or both.

You may need to use your hands to steady your toy. Ride your toy as fast or as slow as you want. At the same time, rub your clitoris or play with your nipples at the end of this solo session.

Want to go wild? Try the reflection

The reflection is a great way to really discover your body and what turns you on.

Sit in front of a full-length mirror with a big tube of lube. Pour the lube all over your body — your breasts, belly, inner thighs, and vulva — and start sliding your hands over these erogenous zones.

Pinch, squeeze, pull, tug, rub — do whatever feels good and pay attention to what really gets you hot and bothered.

A sexy solo session doesn’t have to exclude foreplay. Instead of jumping right into touching yourself, why not set off slowly and get your other senses tingling?

Check out for a treasure trove of steamy audiobooks.

Masturbation is a fun, sexy, and safe way to explore your desires and learn what turns you on.

Plus, there are so many health benefits to self-pleasure (Reduced stress! Better sleep! Sexual release!) that there’s no reason not to sneak in some pleasure every day.

If you’re new to solo play, that’s OK, too. There’s no right or wrong way to masturbate, so take the time to discover your body.

Bottom line: Do whatever makes you feel good — and enjoy every minute of it!

Erotic Books for a More Pleasurable Sex Life

Erotic Books for a More Pleasurable Sex Life

Medically reviewed by Janet Brito, Ph.D., LCSW, CST — By Sarah Aswell — Updated on August 9, 2019

Lack of sexual interest and desire is the most common sexual complaint women have in the doctor’s office. And even after the first “female Viagra” pill flopped two years ago, women are still looking for fail-safe, scientifically proven ways to increase their libido and pleasure — whether playing solo or with a partner.

While some claim natural aphrodisiacs like chocolate and oysters have an effect on their sex hormone levels and bedroom behavior, there’s not much solid evidence that they make a dent in your day-to-day sex drive. But a recent study has shown that consuming sexy literature can help everything from your libido to the strength of your orgasm.

The 2016 study, which was published in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy, recorded the sexual functioning of 27 women over six weeks. Half read self-help books, and the other half read erotic fiction. The result? Both groups made equal, statistically significant gains when it came to:

  • sexual desire
  • sexual arousal
  • lubrication
  • satisfaction
  • orgasms
  • pain reduction
  • overall sexual functioning

“Bibliotherapy,” as this study called it, never sounded so fun and rewarding.

Generally, erotica is defined as any type of art that’s meant to cause sexual thoughts or arousal. There’s a slight difference between erotica and plain ol’ pornography: Erotica is seen as art that has a sexual aspect, while pornography is seen as words and images that only exist to sexually excite, without much art to offer.

Today, the term erotica is often used specifically to describe written words that arouse and excite.

Commons forms of erotica

  • fiction, from short stories to novels
  • nonfiction essays and retellings of true experiences
  • romance novels
  • fan fiction
  • web content and e-books

There are a number of misconceptions surrounding erotica. Some of these myths are the result of sex-negative groups that aim to shame and control women. Others are simply based on stereotypes and misinformation. Let’s look at the biggest and most common three.

Myth 1: Women like erotica more than men

It’s a huge stereotype that men prefer visual images of sex (pornography), while women prefer reading “bodice-rippers” because of their quieter, more cerebral sex drive. Most studies have shown that men are equally turned on by the written word as women, and that women consume more visual pornography than you may think. And way back in 1966, Masters and Johnson found that the general physiology of sexual arousal in men and women is pretty much the same.

Myth 2: Erotica hurts relationships

Some groups like to warn that erotica causes partners to escape to a fantasyland that spoils any hope that they can get aroused by their run-of-the-mill partner in their run-of-the-mill bed.

But studies have shown that reading erotica makes you more likely to get between the sheets with your partner or pleasure yourself in the 24 hours after you read it. Plus, the first study we mentioned above suggests that erotica can significantly increase the overall sex drive and sexual pleasure of a woman reading it.

Myth 3: Readers will want to act out their favorite far-out erotic stories

Newcomers to erotica may worry that they’re turned on by the BDSM depicted in “Fifty Shades of Grey” or by a homosexual relationship when they’ve never felt same-sex attraction. But Linda Garnets, PhD, a researcher at the University of California at Los Angeles, can put your concerns to rest. She says our erotic personalities are as unique as our fingerprints, and that our sexual identities, sexual attractions, and sexual fantasies don’t all have to fit together seamlessly (and they also likely change over time).

For example, it’s perfectly normal to be turned on by a steamy same-sex scene even if you don’t identify as gay, or by any fantasy you can think of. That certainly solves the mystery of why some of the most popular erotica plots don’t end up being expressed in real life — they’re simply hot to read about and think about, nothing more.

Of course, erotica may also give you ideas for fun, new things to try in the bedroom, from new positions to role-playing.

If you’re interested in exploring erotica, getting started can be overwhelming. According to adult store Adam & Eve, the romance and erotica genres make $1.44 billion each year. And there’s a lot to choose from.

Here are a few tips on diving in:

  • Find what you like. It can be hard to know what turns you on until you’ve read it. One great place to start is with an anthology that contains a wide swath of writing styles, scenarios, and authors. Another approach is checking out e-books on Amazon. Many of them offer a sneak peak of a few pages for free.
  • Try one-handed reading. There’s no wrong way to read erotica. Some people like to enjoy it like any other book and then think about it later, while with a partner or masturbating. Others use it directly as a tool in the bedroom. Find out what’s right for you.
  • Try involving your partner. Just like pornography, erotica isn’t just for solo play. You can try reading it out loud to a partner, or have them read to you. Or you can ask your partner to read a story and then act it out with you.
  • Try writing a few pages yourself. Erotica isn’t just for reading. Millions of women and men enjoy writing it just as much (or more than) they like reading it. Write stories for yourself, try your hand at fan fiction, or even consider self-publishing your work.

Here are a few books and websites to get you started, from classics to anthologies:

  • “The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica,” edited by Rose Caraway. This anthology has a little bit of lots of genres, from horror to romance to sci-fi, all by leading voices in the world of sexy writing.
  • “Delta of Venus,” by Anaïs Nin. This classic piece of erotica might’ve been written decades ago, but it’s still as steamy as ever. This is a great literary choice for someone with a fascination to sexy scenes.
  • “The Crossfire Series,” by Sylvia Day. This modern erotica/romance series follows a couple through their hot relationship, despite drama and buried demons.
  • Adult fan fiction. Websites abound with free fan fiction in thousands of forms, from “Harry Potter” to “L.A. Law.” There’s lots of original writing out there, plus opportunities to try out writing erotica yourself.

Once you get started, you can also follow books and curated lists on Goodreads to find storylines you enjoy. Erotica can get formulaic at times, but being able to expect the turn-ons that come your way is also one of the many blessings of the art.

18 masturbation techniques for women and men

September 2, 2021 Likbez Sex

If solo sex has lost its lustre, here are ways to spice it up.

First, let's remind you of a simple rule: if it seems to you that it would not hurt to add lubricant, it doesn't seem to you. Dry masturbation can lead to irritation due to friction. So be sure to use a lubricant in all the techniques below. Better water-based: such products are universal.

If you already use lubricant, try increasing the quantity. A light wet slip can take your fingers further than usual, and make your movements more confident and bold. And perhaps this will be the key to orgasm.

Masturbation techniques for women

1. With shower head

Try to massage your perineum not with your fingers, but with streams of water, let them penetrate into the most secluded places of your body. If such a “tickle” seems not enough, the nozzle can be removed - then the effect of a jet of water under pressure will become even more noticeable.

Option: Buy a special shower head from a sex shop. It helps to regulate the diameter and pressure of the water jet, as well as accurately set the direction of its movement. Such props can also be used to stimulate an extremely sensitive clitoris.

2. With towel

This technique can be called a simulation of the famous horsewoman pose. Take a chair, put a thick rolled towel on it, sit on top of the structure and start the classic “woman on top” movements. By the way, you can masturbate in this way without taking off your panties.

3. With a towel and a vibrator

The scheme is the same as in the previous paragraph, only wrap a sex toy in a towel. Naturally, having previously turned it on.

4. In front of a mirror

Watching porn videos is exciting. But watching yourself in intimate moments excites no less. Try masturbating in front of a mirror. You can even set it up close so you can see everything your fingers are doing in detail.

5. With video

Just turn on the video in which the main character successfully and incendiary satisfies herself, and copy her, repeat the movements. People tend to empathize with what they see on the screen, to identify with the characters, so when the girl in the story has an orgasm, it is likely that you will be covered with sensations too.

6. To the music

A well-chosen playlist can improve your training results. Similarly, music can set you up for orgasm. Pick up rhythmic songs that seem especially exciting to you, and move your fingers or vibrator to the beat.

7. Scissor hand

Make a V with the index and middle fingers of either hand and place the pads of the fingers on either side of the external labia. Then, working with your fingers like scissors, begin to move the labia towards each other, squeeze them. Increase or decrease the pressure and pace depending on how you feel.

8. With your whole hand

Grasp the outer labia with your index finger and little finger. And gently insert the middle and ring fingers into the vagina - so that their inner side touches the clitoris at the same time. Make middle and nameless translational movements back and forth. And at the same time, with the palm of your hand and your free thumb, grab and squeeze the pubic area to enhance the sensations.

9. Without hands

In principle, they are optional in masturbation. Here are a couple of easy positions in which you can achieve orgasm without hands. Sit on a chair, cross your legs and bring your hips together as much as possible. Squeeze and relax your buttocks, gradually increasing the pace.

Second option: lie on your stomach, spread your legs and, moving your buttocks, start rubbing your clitoris against the bed (you can put a pillow under your hips). At first, do it at the slowest, most relaxed pace, listening to the sensations. As pleasant warmth spreads in the groin, accelerate.

Masturbation techniques for men

1. Rubbing against the palm of your hand

Grasp the erect penis at the base with one hand and rub its shaft and head against the open palm of the other. Due to the fact that the point of contact is constantly changing, stimulation will seem unexpected, varied and quickly lead to orgasm.

2. Descent-ascent

Another way to diversify stimulation. Grasp the penis at the base in a fist, squeeze and slide upwards to the head. When you reach the end, turn your fist so that your thumb is down, and go down to the base of the penis. Repeat the movements, turning your fist up and down.

3. "Milking"

Grasp the penis at the base in any convenient way - for example, in a fist or in a ring of forefinger and thumb. Slide your hand to the head of the penis as if you are trying to “milk” something out of it. When you reach the head, open your fingers and at the same time grab the base of the organ with your other hand. Repeat. Alternate hands, gradually accelerating the pace.

By the way, the “milking” technique is the key to jelqing. This is the name of the method of physical stimulation, which some optimists use to increase the penis.

4. On your side

Lie on your side with your knees drawn up to your stomach. By moving your upper leg towards and away from you, you will be able to stimulate the shaft and head of the penis. When the excitement becomes palpable, straighten and stretch your legs, clasp your penis with your hand and, moving your hips, complete the process.

5. Lying on your stomach

Lie on your side, grab your penis closer to the head with your hand. Then roll over onto your stomach so that your fist rests on the mattress. Begin to enter the hand, as you do with normal sex - moving your hips.

6. In the shower

Shower games are not just for women. Take a shower sprayer, direct jets of warm water to the perineum, pubis, base and shaft of the penis, testicles. Make circular movements to catch the most pleasant pace and find the most sensitive points.

When the excitement becomes unbearable, without postponing the shower, help yourself with your free hand.

7. With toys

The simplest and most affordable option is a male masturbator. There are dozens of types of them: gadgets for simulating vaginal and oral sex, manual and automatic, with heating and realistic sound. Just walk into a sex shop, ask to see the assortment, and your masturbation will never be the same.

8. With pillows

Place two pillows side by side, pressing tightly against each other, and place the penis in the gap between them. Start moving your hips as you would during normal intercourse and at the same time squeeze the pillows with your hands, shifting them at different angles and adjusting the depth of the hollow.

Please note: after such masturbation, the pillowcases will have to be changed.

9. With elements of anal sex

The prostate is called the male G-spot, and it may be your way to achieve an amazing solo orgasm. Try to find her.

To do this, gently explore the area near the anus with your fingers (lubrication is required!) Gradually penetrating into the anus. The prostate is located at a depth of about 5 centimeters, from the side of the pubis. It is easy to identify by touch - it is a small rounded bulge.

Gently and gently massage the prostate with up and down strokes. With your free hand, you can caress the testicles and penis to increase arousal.

If you feel uncomfortable using your finger, try anal stimulators - these tiny vibrators, adapted to the male body, can be bought at any sex shop.

29 unusual ways of female masturbation with hands, sex toys and objects - Sex Box

You can stimulate the magic point inside a woman on your own if there is no man, but you really want an orgasm! Women are just as creative in their ways of masturbation as men.

Fondling with fist gives stronger sensation

Cam masturbation allows you to adjust the pressure on the clitoris and labia. You can put the fist either on the clitoris or between the labia. You can rest your thumb joint against the clitoris, and move your index finger along one of the lips. Or place the bent joint of the index finger on the clitoris, and slide the end of the thumb along the large and small labia.

Variety of pleasant sensations: move the fist vertically, in a circle, horizontally. You can insert your finger shallowly into the vagina. The change of movements causes a strong and vivid orgasm.

The palm gives stronger pressure and makes orgasm easier to achieve. Start masturbating with your fingers, as your arousal grows, use the edge of your palm. Or put your palm hill on the clitoris, and with your free fingers you can caress the labia, insert them into the vagina and into the ass - alternately or simultaneously. This way of masturbation causes a strong orgasm.

Fold two hands together. You place it between your legs: closer to the clitoris or closer to the entrance to the vagina. You start, as if sawing through your crotch. Two palms prolong the onset of orgasm, and at the same time you do not burn out. And the ribs of the palms cover almost the entire vagina.

Finger slingshot

Masturbation of the clitoris with fingers

Make the index and middle fingers into a slingshot in the form of an inverted V, fingertips down. With this slingshot, massage the labia majora from the outside, with the interdigital septum squeeze the clitoris with different intensity. Actively move your pelvis. Here, all attention is not limited to the clitoris, but it is stimulated with every movement. Tension of the pelvic muscles will lead to a very strong orgasm. In this method, all attention is not limited to the clitoris, but it is involved in almost every movement.

Simulate clitoral milking with index finger and thumb. Do pressure under the clitoris only when moving up! Don't touch the head itself. Stimulate it like a man's little cock, it releases a lot of lube! Even with the initial lack of excitation, a rush of blood will cause it quickly.

Expose the head

Pull the skin over the pubis towards the navel so that the clitoris protrudes out. Caress him as you like - with your fingers, puff, vibrating things. Don't loosen the tension.

2/3 stimulation

Caress the clitoris with the fingers of one hand. Place 2 or 3 fingers of the other hand into the vagina, make progressive movements, try to stimulate the G-spot. You can put 2 fingers into the vagina, and insert the third into the anus. Orgasm is very powerful because of the diverse stimulation.

Someone else's hand

Put your hand under your ass and hold it until it becomes numb. And then start masturbating. There will be a feeling that the clitoris is caressed by a completely alien hand! You can experience an orgasm in just a minute.

EVERY woman LOVES exposure to water, different temperatures, pressures and vibrations. Everyone experiences a strong bright orgasm, is easily aroused again and is able to cum more than once.

Masturbation in the shower

Detachable shower head for easy orgasms. Unscrew the head and stimulate the clitoris, labia with a jet. Change the pressure of the water with your finger, the direction, the strength of the vibration. Move your shower further for gentle tickling sensations or closer for intense sensations. You can move the jet in rhythmic circular motions, vertically and horizontally. Changing the strength and speed of the jet will allow you to adjust the time to reach orgasm. You can bring this moment closer and further away endlessly, bringing yourself to a blissful frenzy.

Tap Spray

Lie on your back and spread your legs so that the spray hits the clitoris and vagina. Adjust the temperature and pressure in advance. The water pressure will be constant. For a change, move your pelvis, lift it, move it to the side, spread your labia.

Lie down in the jacuzzi with your clitoris against the jet. There, the jet is not solid, but consists of several small streams. You will feel that you have never had such an orgasm as in a jacuzzi. Water pressure is similar to a vibrator, but the feeling is different. Some women describe hot tub orgasms as voluptuous tremors all over their bodies.

Fruits with pulp

It is extremely pleasant to diversify the sensations of fingers or sex toys with soft juicy pliable fruits with pulp. The most suitable are peaches, mangoes, bananas and kiwis. They have a soft inner rind with its own lubrication. Rub the inside of a banana skin or mango on your clitoris. Sliding amazingly fast to make you cum.

Strawberry clitoral caresses

Delicate and moist banana skin for clitoral caresses Everyone loves a soft banana

You can insert a peeled banana into your vagina, with or without a condom. Soft tender pulp is perfect for vaginal masturbation. An unpeeled banana is thick, resilient and curved. Great phallus.

Cucumber, zucchini, eggplant, carrot, corn

These are excellent dildos.

  • Cucumber with pimples stimulates the walls of the vagina and the clitoris.
  • Zucchini is larger than a cucumber and slightly rough.
  • Eggplant without pimples and less zucchini. The skin is smooth and flexible.
